I own a half dozen of Beryls and another (recent) half dozen of the Beryl-AX routers. Had a couple of the Mango routers for testing, but returned those pronto.

I love the original Beryls. They were stable af before a bunch of firmware updates. I'm slow to adopt new firmware updates now, but they're surprisingly good devices. I use them as gateway routers for my airbnbs: Triple WAN: ethernet, Wifi repeater, and tethered USB hotspot. Why? because of a variety of reasons that I won't get into, but they work very well for my needs, and I've been happy with them.

I recently picked up the Beryl-AXs as upgrades, and they've been OK, but I'm not fully switched over yet on all my installations. I still use a Beryl 1300 at home.

These have been as stable as my Unifi USG gateway (until they went to shit the other year). In fact, I replaced my Unifi USG with a Beryl 1300 and it's worked fine. Of course, not anywhere close to the granular features of Unifi, but these probably fulfill most people's simple needs.

I have the the Ravpower.
works great since it has a built in battery but randomly drops from the source wifi for some reason. (sometimes less than 20min)
This is mainly the reason why i want to buy another travel router.

I probably need a firmware upgrade but the company that created the FileHub no longer supports it and removed the firmware upgrade from their website.

Anyone have a link to an updated firmware?

You can also flash it to openWrt but i have no idea how to do that.
Any help here?
It doesn't look like a simple "upload the file through the web UI" thing...

Here's the installation instructions from OpenWrt: https://openwrt.org/toh/ravpower/rp-wd03.
Here's the link to the files: https://mirror-03.infra.openwrt.o...ps/mt7620/.

so let me get this straight. you want to connect a public or private wifi network through this, using your own vpn, and then make it accessible to multiple devices. so basically, unless you're a complete idiot, and you connect a scam network, you're going to route your traffic through multiple VPNS? by then your connection will be so slow and crappy that you might as well give up.

In case you want to buy from their own website, it's free shipping and no tax was charged. Just ordered an AXT-1800 for $103.20.
Use code 20AXT1800 to take $25.80 OFF the price. (For this model only) Worked great.

This will be my 2nd GL INET travel router.

no.
im using it for cruises.
Upgrade to unlimited internet package. let friends connect to me and also get unlimited.

so i think i'm just using it as a wifi repeater thus the $9 Mango should fit my purposes cheaply.

Can anyone confirm that Opal doesn't support easy tether? That's what the Amazon site says. Where as slate does?

I wanted to have the option to use my phones unlimited data plan for my home internet.

They update the firmware so often. Really a well supported device. Works with many VPN services like wire guard and setup is through a built in interface.
Supports AdHome
Supports Tor

Awesome device.
it depends on devices !
ie. GL-SFT1200 , they did not upgrade firmware in the past or in the feature!

Those AC-1900's are awesome. You can run dd-wrt, open-wrt or Asus Merlin firmware. I have one of those as backup just in case and still works strong.
As far as I know, the AC-1900 doesn't support open-wrt, at least the wireless part because of driver issue of the wireless chip.

Someone convince me why I need this
Honestly, can't. Main use case is now integrated into cell phone's Hotspot wifi sharing already.

Why is that needed if cell phone can already share its connected wifi or cell data?

One thing I learned from this post is that there are a lot of slickdealsers that go on cruises.

Good hint.. Been looking for a method that has a client on a router.. OpenWRT client is great. You used this and known to be solid for extended periods of time?
