Yep CZ is a good set. $3.99 per pack is the cheapest I've seen it go for a while

CZ ETB was $33.24 last November. Amazon had a limit of 3 per customer. But I was able to get Target and Best Buy to PM. I've not heard Best Buy or Target selling resealed ETB. But with Amazon the stock might be mixed with 3rd party sellers.

Better deal @ 40 or paldean fates for 43 on Amazon? (Not worried about tampered packs)

I used to play back in the day (original base set through Team Rocket) and I was looking at the value of the rares in CZ; can anyone explain why $3 a CZ pack is a good deal or if you buy the CZ ETB? I have some younger kids getting into pokemon and wonder if it's better just to buy the current meta cards and make decks vs buying large quantities of boosters or the ETB? Any perspective you can share would be much appreciated!

They must be trying to get rid of stock. These have been on sale for $3 a pack at least 3-4 times just since the holidays.

I'm new to this. I only started after my son did last year. From what I gathered, you cannot buy CZ booster on its own (booster packs or blister packs). It only comes from ETB (10), ETB Plus (12), mini Tins (2), and some collection boxes. ETB Plus costs way too much for having just 2 extra packs more than ETB. Mini Tins are even more expensive per pack. Premium collection sells for same price as ETB but with half the packs. So CZ ETB seems to hit the right price point per pack.

I can't comment on Scarlet & Violet, Obsidian Flames, and Paldea Evolved. But people told me they got really good pulls out of CZ ETB, probably one of the best in the recent sets. I pulled a gold card on my first CZ ETB which I bought from Target. I had to return some CZ ETB back to Amazon because they were clearly tampered with.

It's not offered here, but people said to stay away from 151. I knew someone who got zero hit out of 151 ETB. They also have the booster pack box at Walmart. Again, someone told me he opened two boxes (6 packs each) and got no hit. 151 seems to be atrocious. You potentially drop $40-50 and get nothing. I haven't heard that for CZ.

It all depends on what you are looking for. 151 is an homage set that only has the original 151 Pokémons and CZ has beautiful artwork with a variety of Pokémons. They both offer great illustration cards so you can't go wrong with either imo. If you want more hits and to collect beautiful cards then CZ is the choice but if you want that nostalgic factor then 151 is the choice.
I come from team rocket days also. My kids recently got into Pokemon and with the release of 151, it has been great bonding time. We definitely spend more money on 151 to complete our set but will pick up CZ here and there to rip open packs together.
I would pick 151 over CZ just because of the nostalgia factor.

Thanks for the feedback. I can totally see now why the CZ ETB is a good price point to open a lot of good / rare? cards. My kids have a competitive nature, so we will be playing the game at home (strengthening thise math skills) and fingers crossed we can make a few decent decks after buying 2 or 3 ETBs.

I appreciate the feedback about 151 as well. I have the entire base set / jungle / Fossil sets so the kids will be able to play with those cards when they get older. In this day and age I can't see opening one or multiple ETBs and not getting any good cards; I have been doing some researching and to buy all the individual cards in Charizard EX or similar isn't all that expensive.

I remember back in the day buying a booster box when I played somewhat competitively for $120 or so, and I think you were guaranteed to get a few good cards like blastoise or charizard. I may be totally wrong in a whole box being a bust, but I seem to recall a store owner selling packs and seeing 1-3 really good pulls from the booster packs, then nobody would buy from the rest of the box since your odds of getting a high value card were very slim. I think that is the same for MTG with legendary cards, but I could be wrong as a lot of things have changed over the past decade.

How much money did you have to spend to complete 151? I was told it's impossible even for CZ, less 151. It might be possible to complete CZ if you can do some trading provided that you can pull some duplicate high value cards and gold cards.

Buy them singles, few packs for rares and commons and occasional but extremely rare, ultra rare and super secret cards may get pulled...but you can watch Amazon and Walmart daily to see single card prices at food deals
