Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Considering there are other variants selling for $490, and MSRP is $500, this is overpriced, IMO.

I agree that the 7800 XT at $500 is a little too pricey for this year's performance. However, this particular card should not be compared to the reference models that are selling at $490.

Merc is the best version of the XFX line. It's like MSI's Suprim model or Asus's Rog Strix model or Sapphire's Nitro+ model. These are not the reference models that drop at MSRP. These cards come with some extra perks (usually better cooler and clocked higher and ofc look more fancy).

I know what you mean. My point was for those who can't or wouldn't spend the extra $20. I would call this a "nice-to-have" as opposed to a "must-have." For those who absolutely must have a "top" variant. At this performance tier, if budget limited, one would be absolutely fine with a cheaper variant. I would put more stock in which brand you get, its warranty coverage, and its customer service reputation than the variant.

I, too, would get something more than the reference model, and the Sapphire Pulse is only $490. Sapphire is considered the top brand for AMD quality wise, but its warranty is only 2 years (vs 3 for other brands).

In the middle price wise, you have the ASUS TUF OC variant (now $500). I had one until recently, and it was awesome--overclockable on top of the factory overclock, quiet, no coil whine, solidly built (all anodized aluminum, no plastic), gorgeous.
