I've been looking at these and it seems there are many other companies now that make consumer sawmills which are better than the HF in every way for about the same price

I have the Woodland Mills HM122. A very good machine. It's about $500 more than the HF saw, and worth the difference. Throttle controlled blade lubricant, excellent manual, better support (when I was researching, I got an email response from the engineer who designed the product), better accessory availability.

All of the entry level sawmills take a bit of know-how for adjustments and operation. Unless you are spending $15 to $20K for one of the automated machines with hydraulics and digital controls, you have to know your way around the machine and be comfortable wrenching on things..

I'd been eyeing a Wood-Mizer, but this might be a better entry point. Realistically I doubt I'll buy one until my youngest is off to school, but it's good to know this is out there. Would love to make a hobby/side business of milling lumber and mantels out of the countless trees people are having taken down around here. I have everything but the sawmill. And the trailer. And the truck. And the time. And the business acumen.

Make sure you have a tractor to load the huge log onto the truck too.
