They're not even the same models.

As mentioned before, it's a business class laptop with an aluminum case, backlit keyboard feels good, and I find it very quiet.
Maybe upgrade to a larger SSD in the future
thanks OP
Did replace it with 1TB SSD I had as spare for both and works great. Appreciated for the deal by OP and you on the contribution!!
I dont know why people d not detect that this is great deal. Maybe just not read into details and want quick answer from people as they are busy or something. Anyway just want to support your contribution to this!!

but now that we know that these are just old stock (but brand new) and the warranty can be reset to the full 3 yrs, it was a killer killer deal at $300. and a killer deal at $350. these are fantastic machines, so well built, and the specs are no slouch. super easy to throw in a 1TB SSD and 32GB of memory too. took me less than 10 mins
i peeled back one of the labels and another label and got down to the original label and saw these were going to Amazon Web Services (ie AWS). i peeled back the labels on the other 2 and they said the same thing
so looks like these were supposed to be headed to AWS. and at one point either the order contract was canceled or they took delivery and they were left brand new in the boxes and then sold to Micro Center.
i did some digging around. AWS gives its employees (2) options for computers....you can choose an Apple Macbook, or an HP Elitebook. these were probably the Elitebook option back in 2021/2022, and more people chose the Macbooks than they were expecting. that is my guess
i hope this becomes an annual thing. would love getting my hands on subsequent 2-3 yrs old "brand new" Elitebooks
For such purpose this laptop is plenty. I haven't tried compiling code on it or rendering video. Probably never do as that was not the goal. For $300 or $350 (or say $400/450 after upgrades), hard to go wrong in terms of features and build quality. $450 still much less than $1K.
IMO the only things truly missing is an in built ethernet port. HDMI could be 2.1 for better color support (it's 2.0 in this model). Perhaps that was the standard back in '21.
By your logic, current laptops will be dirt cheap in ~2027
This is a true Mac alternative (for windows users) in terms of build quality, keyboard, glass trackpad. RAM and SSD can be upgraded (major negative with Mac) along with 3 years warranty.
After trying few plastic / part metal windows laptops, I thought only razer (which is off-course has much power and costlier) is the only windows laptop which can feel like Mac. But this Elite book is on par with Mac with much less price and enough cpu power for most of the regular tasks.
Anyone tried ssd in the WAN slot? The empty WAN slot looks like it can take the shorter nvme version.
Update: tried but, nvme ssd wont fit.
Any coupon code to get it for lower?
