I learned my lesson not to use matte pla anymore after I bought a bunch of esun matte that wouldn't stick to the build plate and was a nightmare to print with in general.

Matte PLA can absolutely be a huge pain, and the batches can be wildly inconsistent. I bought some of this SainSmart GT-3 high speed matte PLA a couple of months ago and it honestly prints great, until it doesn't. I had no bed adhesion issues with it, but did have a few prints that just delaminated due to random underextrusion using my spool of blue. Then that just stopped happening. Meanwhile the red spool I bought also printed super well for about 1/4 of the spool, but after that just became unusable due to that same underextrusion issue. To their credit, SainSmart asked me to take pictures of the problem and immediately sent out a new spool in the color of my choice. This stuff really is good if you get a good batch.
I had previously ordered Polymaker PolyTerra matte PLA because it was a recycled filament. Now THAT had bed adhesion issues galore. I had to start using glue stick for all prints, and even then I'd still get prints warping off the bed. It was an absolute nightmare to use, and really a shame because the prints that did succeed had an amazing finish to them which hid layer lines so well. I got in touch with Polymaker's support team and they tried for about two weeks to help me dial in settings to print successfully with this, but they weren't able to. I eventually got a refund and just set the (many) spools aside. I recently decided to try the PolyTerra again after modifying my prints to have my own mouse ears instead of auto-generated ones. I was able to brute force the prints into staying on the bed, and now will only warp if I've gone too long without cleaning the build plate.
To anyone looking at picking this up, it does have a slightly shinier finish than I would expect from a matte PLA, and I hope SainSmart gets their production process down to produce more consistently mixed filament, because it has the ability to produce great prints and very low warping, if the batch is good.
got these last time in matte black and matte silver. they printed great for me on x1c. would pick another couple of spools but not a fan of teal/mint colors.

Glad to know I am not the only one to have problems with eSun matte. That filament remains the only filament I have ever just thrown in the trash rather than try to use it up because it really was THAT BAD.
That said, that is specifically eSun. I have used plenty of other brands of matte PLA without issue. Elegoo, Overture, Polymaker, and Tecsonar come to mind off the top of my head, but there might be others, as I have tested quite a lot of filament.
I've never tried SainSmart, and at this price it's tempting, but I've also got over 100 opened spools right now and am running out of space to put any more filament. (What I really need is more than 1 printer so I can start using my filament stock faster).

Polymaker and Overture are my go tos for matte PLA. Never had issues

Interesting to hear. I purchased a few spools of PLA Matte from Bambu Labs and have not had any issues printing on my X1C; using a gold 3rd party PEI plate I purchased off TEMU.
