Try setting a gaming monitor to 60Hz, and move the coursor around the screen. Then set it to 120Hz and move it again..Then 240Hz. You have to be blind not to see the difference.

Humans only see 50hz to maybe 90hz at the highest. That's where the dilemma sits. Most people will never notice flicker at 60hz. But there's the odd ball person that may if they really try. Then there's the people that just feel like higher specs means they're stuff is better... Placebo???

Not true, but it's more about feeling the difference than seeing it anyways. If you play games that require high accuracy and response times then you'll absolutely notice the benefits of higher refresh rates immediately.
If you want higher fps, you need higher hz
If you want to run halo or fortnite at 120fps, then you need a 120hz refresh rate monitor
Is this why I have a 3080 and my frames won't go past 120 in any game? I had no idea that's how it works lol. So I'd need a 240hz monitor to pass 120fps?

Well I run 3 34" Ultrawides with AMD EyeInfinity all 60hz with vsync off , and get over 100/130 fps on average on up (160fps) with no screen tearing or problems . The only problems that may arise if the fps go past 130fps on up depending on the game I may get tearing ..
Heres a screen of Sniper 5 (7680x1080 , highest I can go with this game), settings all to ultra . Unfortunate that the AMD fps counter etc did not show in the sceen shot .
Screenshot posted was running about 110 fps .
(sorry for wierd sized screen shot , but it was done through Steam)
