I have this. It's fine. You have to uninstall all the Alienware bullshit for it to run well though. It would get frame drops like crazy until I removed the Alienware performance software. Totally counterintuitive.

Alienware software is horsedudoo, I have a recently built rig with a 4070ti and it had issues when I had their software on it just for my monitor, removing it fixed several issues

Nah, Id keep what you got, thats a better deal imo, you'll be fine for a whlie, then can upgrade gpu. Gaming wise there is no difference from 13700 vs 14700.

Most AW parts can't be upgraded but the GPU can and this has a great upgrade path with it since it has a 1000W PSU which is hardly needed for the 4070 Super

Maybe R14 and below. But they fixed the airflow on R15. And I know, because I've had one sitting next to me for a year. Barely any heat/fan issues at all compared to R14, R13 and before.

I am not calling you a liar cause I am sure some units were fine, but some others were not. Gamers Nexus did a great video on the R15.

Just adding in - I have an R16 (never had any of the older versions) and it's dead silent and very cool. Was able to upgrade it with a 4090FE and 64GB of ram as well. Very pleased. The old versions may have been bad but the R16 is not.

This is simply just not true. GPU, RAM, Storage, PS - *all* upgradable. The PSU is *STANDARD* ATX format. I have an R8 and an R12 - both have ATX standard PSU size.

Now, granted, the motherboard and case are non-standard sized. So, on the R8 for example, you won't be fitting a 3 fan 30 series or 40 series GTX (they are about 2" too long) so you are limited to a 2 fan or GPU form factor that is <10" long - which does exist.

But certainly doesn't align with this inaccurate message that keeps getting propagated of "Alienware can't be upgraded! Avoid!" each and every time an Alienware deal pops up on this site. It just isn't true.

This seems really appealing. Most of the reviews I have found have really praised the revised R16 versus some of the complaints I am seeing here from the prior gens. Seriously considering purchasing this.

Not a huge fan of prebuilts but there's a lot of way to get stuffs cheaper from dell's website. I'd say having 8g ddr5 is kinda illegal but seems reasonable price, and would be great deal if you could use dell credits from amex, CB etc. Asides all the hate towards prebuilts, if you don't know all the desktop components and how it works, and do not plan to care at all, just buy prebuilts. Those "friends" who talk shit about prebuilts don't even know what they saying most of the times anyways and won't really able to help you out if there's problem with your pc. It will be so much better to just contact prebuilt manufacture if you have no idea how to diagnose which part fail, and go through rma process after that.

It's a downside for me.
Just don't want to waste the 16gb that came with it and want to add another 32gb on it.

Thanks. Came to say the same. So tired of people regurgitating the same misinformation like they're experts on Alienware when, in fact, they never owned one!

I've had Alienware R7 thru R15 and 2 x Area-51's before that.

I've never had a failure but did have those heat issues with R12-14 as mentioned. Nothing failed but dang they got so hot when gaming.

My R15 has been rock solid. R16 sounds good also but I just don't care for the dumbed down box look. I could get a case like that anywhere.

Cheers,

Bub

The PSU might be standard ATX size, you can't swap out with any ATX PSU. The motherboard uses Dell's proprietary 12 pin power, normal ATX PSU doesn't have that.

i have an alienware gaming laptop with a mobile 4080 so can't promise it'll help, but uninstalling the Dell SupportAssist somehow fixed a lot of my issues. it really is amazing how bad their software is
