A used latitude in good shape will likely outlast a new Inspiron, and $399 is more than double the price of this deal.
You can return these on Dell Refurbished's dime if there is anything wrong (such as loose hinges).
I bought one of these in Sept 2023; at this price I enjoy replacing them every 2-3 years. I think this is my third or fourth used Latitude laptop. They're still useful to those I give them away to.

It's on my desk now, driving two 32" 4K monitors from the HDMI sand USB-C ports, plus the 14" screen, running 50 edge tabs, notes, outlook, chrome, and teams. I'm managing Azure & M365 resources, coding in PS via the portal. it's durable, well-supported, easy to buy parts for (I put in a 2TB drive for my photography, for which I run PS and LR Classic).

In short, a perfectly fine laptop for those who don't game.
These are great for some special use cases where you wouldn't want to spend big $$ on new hardware with the latest and most powerful processors. Case in point - I bought one of the 7400s a few weeks ago for $190 during their last sale. I got it specifically to use with the Forscan ODB II software for reading codes and tweaking options on my Ford truck. Add a $40 ODB II USB interface and I have a great fully-functional bi-directional scan tool for use with my vehicles for under $250.

A semi-pro purpose-built scan tool with same same capabilities would have run me at least $500 or more (and they typically are custom android tablets). As a bonus, this is a Windows 11 laptop that can serve other purposes.

I replaced 3 times and 4th time was good.

The 1st one, battery issue. and 2nd one was a touchpad button missing a good 3/4 inch paint. and 3rd time, the system was very unstable (system down for no reason, even after several resets).

Finally fourth time, it was good in condition cosmetically and functionally.

Their grade A is not like new. All of the replacements were grade A, but those had a lot of scratches and dings and some other imperfections.
We only hear from those that got newish laptops a year or two ago, who've become big promoters in these threads. Your reality feedback is appreciated.

Any bad product shipments that are able to be returned go right back into the re-sale inventory float for the next unsuspecting buyers. That next buyer will be the third (or fourth) user. That's how these old processor laptop keep remaining in the FedEx Recycling inventory perhaps.

My experience was similar to yours but I didn't get the support that you received. FedEx Recycling wasn't willing to do any returns on the following flaws, since they didn't see anything as officially "broken" under their T&Cs:

- battery was 75% using my testing, wouldn't replace, battery drops rapidly after 40%
- scratches and missing paint on both of my "Grade A" laptop purchases, FedEx said these were surface appearance issues and it still qualifies at a "Grade A" from their definition, wouldn't replace
- occasional screen flickering on one, FedEx Recycling merely suggested it was a driver issue

I purchased two. I'm sure there are many "silent" buyers with similar experiences who we're not hearing from. If I received even one new-like good performing laptop, I might also have become a promoter of these used older laptops.

I'm happy for those that have done well in past years with the product they received. For me, and many others, it hasn't been a very good experience. No purchasor knows what they're going to receive. I've not found FedEx Recycling to be as helpful and accommodating as some have suggested. We're dealing with a "refurbisher" who's interested in getting rid of this old inventory. They don't really want them back, unless forced. I should have gone through my credit card company to push for a chargeback.

Highly YMMV.

Is 7400 better than the 5400 series latitude laptops? Thanks
These are 3-4 year old systems. There are plenty of reviews published on both models, allowing you to do a comparison.

The Latititude 7400 was their top-of-the-line 14" business model in 2019-2020. The 5400 was their mid-tier 14" model. The 3400 was their low-end model.

Actually correction. Intel was still introducing Intel 8th gen CPUs well into 2021 during the pandemic. Various dell and hp laptops were running variants of the 8th gen for a while. It was annoying.

You said bi-directionnel. You can erase codes right?
Can you share what tool you are using?
I have an ancient Vostro that could be a good setup for this. None of my cheap OB scanners erase.

Thanks!

I see!
Just ordered the Dell Latitude 7400 Touch listed for $430 but total came out to $231 after coupon, which is good price IMO.
It's been 20 minutes and haven't seem any redemption email from AMEX so $40 off of $200 will likely not work for the refurbished stuff!

This is not dell.com, so likely will not work.

I'm running a 7400 right now as my main laptop. So far I haven't ran into a workload that it hasn't been able to handle from productivity to light video editing. You'd much rather get business laptops with good construction, backlit keyboard that feels nice to type on, good screen, good repairability but an older CPU, than a new laptop with a new CPU but bad everything else.

Has anyone been able to add one to cart? I keep getting "You have no items in your cart" after clicking "Add to cart."

Update: It looks like their inventory system is more real time than their webserver. Classic.

These come bloated down with fluff and best to fresh install Windows 11 on vs. in-line upgrade?
These systems are freshly returned from some corporate lease. They're supposed to clean them up, wipe the drives, and start the Windows 10 installation. When you turn it on, you get to complete the Windows 10 installation process. At that point, you have a clean install with no bloatware.

I have friends who also purchase Dell refurbs. Two of them received systems that had not been wiped. In that case, they get all the corporate data on the system (behind password and other login security). In that case, they exchange the system, unless you chose to wipe and reinstall the OS yourself.

They were previously licensed for Windows 10, but they will automatically attempt to get you to upgrade to Windows 11.

I bought a refurb Latitude 7300, and the performance is awesome and the battery was like new. The only annoying thing, is the realtek sound driver doesn't have the normal volume leveling (loudness equalization) setting in Windows. Some videos I can watch at 18%, some have to be cranked up to 85%. I haven't found a solution yet.

FedEx Recycling likely pulled a bunch of inventory off its site. One minute there were many units of several different models. The next minute, they were all gone from their system. It's highly unlikely that someone swooped in and purchased all units of all remaining models in inventory.

In the hours/days/weeks to come, those different model configurations will likely all appear again, as they've done in the past.

In addition to the above cautions, please check your configurations carefully. Many models ship with older AC (not AX) wi-fi, older HDMI ports for lower external display resolutions, 220nit dim older screens, etc. Although "business" laptops can have stronger hinges for portability, and ship with Win Pro (for those people who want remote off-site logins and BitLocker), "business" laptops don't provide the demands of many modern new "home" laptops (brighter screens for gaming, updated HDMI ports for 4K external monitors, AX wi-fi, etc.).

"Business" does not mean "better everything", it just means it's for a different category of user. Most "business" users don't run much more than Microsoft Office so they don't need better quality brighter screens, better graphics, upgradability, faster memory, better CPU cooling, etc.

Do you have any recommendations on ODB USB device?
There are two that the authors for FORSCAN have listed as compatible. I went with this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094Z7PBLS (Vgate vLinker FS OBD2 USB Adapter)

The other one they recommend as compatible is this one (more expensive):

The application I am using is FORSCAN https://forscan.org. Sadly, for your case, it is only for Ford vehicles and their sibling variants. I don't think it will work for your case with a Vostro
