(Totally guessing...) but it feels like the reps get bonused on the new accounts they sign up. So if you find the right rep, they'll have you cancel your current plan, then start on the new plan, and that rep would get the credit.
And don't ever feel like you're screwing over Comcast. I had Comcast Business for 1Gig for 2 years at $100 per month. The DAY that it ended, they jacked me up to $300 per month. I didn't notice it for 2 months. Once I did, I switched to regular Comcast for 900MB for $60. If I didn't cancel, they would have happily charged me $300/mo for my service I'm now getting for $60.
If they're offering it...you deserve it. Good luck!
Any tips/tricks?

With Comcast there data caps is what kills these deals, I've had to add the unlimited option on for an extra 20 per mth. I've always renewed in my name by calling retention just as soon as the contract expires ( be sure to ask the rep where there located, USA reps can get the best offers). They always find a way to keep you as a customer and get you the promo rate if stay a customer.
They kept my service long enough after cancellation (3 weeks) that I was actually given the new customer offers under the same name.

Can confirm these prices for new customers my SF Bay area neighborhood, 2-year rate, no term contract. But this time, there were no good deals for existing customer when I logged in, and I read in another forum that the store employees no longer have any power to offer retention deals. Since AT&T Fiber just landed on my street in the last 12 months, I decided to give it a try - there's no contract, so I can switch back to Xfinity anytime. Here are the new customer rates for both:
$40 400/10 Xfinity Fast (BYOD)
$50 400/100 Xfinity Fast (w/modem)
$55 300/300 AT&T Fiber
$60 800/20 Xfinity Superfast (BYOD)
$65 500/500 AT&T Fiber (actual 600/600)
$65 1000/35 Xfinity Gigabit (BYOD)
$70 800/100 Xfinity Superfast (w/modem)
$75 1000/100 Xfinity Gigabit (w/modem)
$80 1000/1000 AT&T Fiber
So confirming $50 for 400Mbps from OP also includes optional 24-months free for their modem (my last one was XB8) and unlimited data; or $10 less if you bring your own modem.
Xfinity 100 Mbps upload with their modem only because they enabled mid-split upgrade on my street, which is not widespread; otherwise upload speed is the same as BYO modem (so only benefit for their modem is no data cap for most).

As for the rest of you no other options people, or even just the right type user...don't forget about 5G home Internet from the big 3 cellular providers. It's not perfect as it's more like using a good Wi-Fi hotspot somewhere vs a full featured better latency etc wired connection, but does work just fine! I somewhat reluctantly tried tmobile's over a year ago as Xfinity wouldn't budge an inch off full rate no matter what I tried when my contract was up at the time. My only other option was up to 75mbps ATT DSL (they don't have fiber here) for over $60/mo, and T-Mobile had promo for $25/mo, price locked, no caps, no contract, etc. Got that intending to stick with it JUST long enough to get back on a new sub contract with Xfinity and my expectation was that it'd prob be just good enough to get by until then. Well, I'm still on it with no intention to leave! Except for latency being a bit high for gaming (still plenty playable, just wouldn't recommend for serious players) and their cgnat configuration, it's been just fine! Vast majority of the time it's been 300-mid 400's+ down 20-30 up, and as high as 700+ on good days, 200-250 on bad, no caps, $25 as long as I'm on it, it's worked out great for me even if Xfinity is the better connection.
