How big is the stuff that you need to miter? This one can cross cut up to 8" and put a 45° miter on a 6" piece.

Wish it had the sliding option to do bigger boards, but for the price, can't complain.
90% of my cuts are on 2×4 to 2×8, so I can't complain. I use a circular saw on everything else.
The only drawback is cutting larger boards. For example, if you are cutting a 6" trim you have to put the long side of the board opposite the motor. Otherwise the motor hits the board and you are stuck with 3/4 of a cut.

I'm more inclined towards a dual bevel for convenience when cutting moldings, not sure if sliding saw will make things better.

Unless your baseboard is super extra tall, I recommend a fixed miter saw for that and use a circular saw with a guide like a speed square for cutting your 2x12s.
