The introductory sale price was $4500 so this is decent. I am hoping it will go down lower.

Hmmm...considered but also much shorter life expectancy.

Hey it could try 1 load of clothes.. amazing... Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Something like this paired with an intermittent use generator might be pretty nice offgrid.

But batteries in an EV cost 130$ per kwh. so this seems quite pricy.

My battery backup system will run everything but our 220v dryer and AC for about 20 hours. We typically have 3-5 events per year that cause outages for 1-4 hours. The EBS is silent and we have never realized were out of power unless we see something posted.
Additional reasons: 30% Tax credit, store additional solar energy, variable energy costs from grid where I can use my system during the day when prices are high and recharge at night when they are lower.

These use LiFePO4 batteries. You could drain and charge them every day for 10 years straight and they'd still retain 80% of their original capacity. If you are hooking them up to solar, and using them off the grid, they are worth it if your needs are modest. You'd have to use it on a regular basis to offset the cost over a regular genny.

Agreed - anyone who buys one of these and let's it just sit there just in case of a power outage is a fool. Set up some solar panels and a transfer switch or sub panel and get some ROI. I invested in a Bluetti AC300 system and my bill went from $200/no to $25 (electric range and dryer are too much). That's $2100/yr and warranty is for 4 years so minimum I get out of it is $8400 worth of power I don't have to pay for each month. If you buy one of these put it to use - don't let it just sit there.

It might be prudent to learn that the fumes from a genny are massively worse to be around than a car...there is no catalytic converter in a genny.

For short-term power needs: Place it anywhere without long extension cords or putting carbon monoxide in your house. Run silent. Don't worry about whether your generator still has good gas in it after sitting for 12 months without being used.

For long-term (>24 hours) needs: You don't want it instead of a generator; you want it in addition to a generator. I've been in a hurricane-hit area where power was out for days. And I remember sitting there thinking the neighbors were being really foolish running their gasoline generator nonstop, because there was also no reliable access to fuel once you ran out. If the outage is extended, you want to run your generator intermittently to save fuel. Run the heater or the fridge/freezer for long enough to keep yourselves from freezing or the food from thawing, charge up needed devices, and so on. This kind of device lets you use electricity at any time according to need, or even continuously, even when not actively running the generator, then every so often run that just long enough to charge this back up again. Especially useful if you have continuous needs that are so much lower than the output of the generator that running the generator just for those would be a huge waste (e.g., an oxygen machine, or CPAP, or some other device).

Agree. I bought one of these from the kickstarter. Dealing with securing a generator and dealing with CO risk in an emergency wasn't appealing to me. Also, to get an inverter generator with 240v and 9000w surge/6000w continuous you're looking at like $1200 already.

I can keep this in my garage during an outage. I plan to keep it topped up using portable solar panels and a 1200w dc power supply plugged into my EV's V2L.

I am holding out for the same but this seems like a decent deal if someone needs it now. Super Early Bird Kickstarter was 3,579 - hoping it comes back down near that.

Just a question - was it something like this that you bought: https://www.bluettipower.com/prod...1278798043 ?

I have two plug in vehicles and charge them both off of a single EVSE on a 110v outlet. Can I use this to put in between the outlet and the two cars using two EVSEs to manage spikes? And what would I need to do in this setup to qualify for the tax credit?
7kwh would be plenty for our typical daily use assuming its constantly charging itself as well.
