I bought one of these and while it looked and felt nice barely gave me any warmth.

Downvote me doofus but it's true. Even in 60 degrees I'm still chilly wearing this.

Nice jacket, super warm for such a lightweight jacket.

If I wore the sage with the matching pants, I'd kick my own…

I liked the CirrusLite down jacket I got a 2-3 years ago, but with relatively light usage the seam at the pocket separated.

Out of warranty and not easy to repair because it's where the bottom of the pocket zipper is. I'm going to try to stick to higher quality/durability brands.

This is not a deal. Eddie Bauer regularly discounts these to $40-$49 and also offers $10 coupon if you join their rewards program, effectively bringing the price to <=$40 with taxes.

I have this jacket and it is constantly spewing out down feather bits after a couple of winters. It's packable and pretty warm, but it won't stop leaking feathers out all of the stitch seams. Maybe an issue with down jackets in general.

It's 650 weight of down. That weight has been tested and is good to 40s as outer jacket. It's good for far lower as a down sweater. These metrics are verified by independent lab tests. These down jackets are not necessarily the warmest jackets...but they are generally the warmest by weight.

The same goes for sleeping bags.

650 is the fill power, not down weight (which is measured in ounces or grams). One can be cold in a down jacket with high quality down (high fill power) if there aren't many feathers in the jacket (a low down weight).

Fill power indicates how warm is the down per unit weight — to deliver the same amount of warmth a low fill power jacket (450-500) will be very puffy, vs a high fill power jacket (800-900) which will be much sleeker. 650-fill is medium quality down.

Down weight is a different measure, literally the weight of the down present within the garment. You use the measures together to understand warmth. Note that the down weight is unlisted for this product (as opposed to for instance, the 800-fill 2.8oz-down-weight Eddie Bauer MicroTherm 2.0 jacket).

Source: worked in outerwear at REI. Also, I own two of the MicroTherm 2.0, the premium Eddie Bauer down jacket, and I wear them all winter in Colorado.

Would you say the microtherm is worth 120 easily and is warmer by a good deal than this jacket posted? I prefer the looks of this one but functionality is more important. Thanks. I was thinking of justifying a Patagonia, but I only use jackets like this for a short period and travel every year since I'm on a warmer climate.

Sorry, I can't say. It has been many years since I shopped for this sort of jacket and I don't know the market nor what's a good deal.

There's a tradeoff between weight, durability, cost, looks, and pockets that is quite personal, depends on how you plan to use it and what each of those is worth to you.

More expensive will generally hold its feathers longer (but still lose them over time), be warmer per weight and volume. Some more expensive jackets will be optimized for lightness, but not be durable nor have pockets. Some will go the other direction and gain those feature but become heavier. Depends what things you want and how much you want to pay.

MicroTherm is quite warm but not the warmest, relatively sleek for a puffy, light, packs into own pocket, tears easily, loses some feathers. It's expensive. I was happy enough to buy another when it went on sale. But there are many good options in this product space.

Thanks. I ordered the blue microtherm that was on clearance. Will return my microlight even thought it was almost half the price. It's pretty useless if it can't warm me up.

I returned mine after a month for exactly that reason.
