my old gen1 Sonos1 and 5 works fine, not sure if I should upgrade. is there an advantage to upgrading ? I know some of the apps won't work since I have not updated the software for quite some time.
I too am running old SW app. If we get new ones does this force us to the new app(s) eliminating our earlier gen devices?

also, can anybody give advice on whether original 1's are worth upgrading to the 2 Room Set with Era 100? This assumes they run on the older version app vs requiring upgrade to new version which drops support for much of what I own :-)

Once you declare your speakers for the discount, will the 30% be for a limited time or be eligible until you use it?

Limited afaik until Feb 29. Will reduce to normal 15% off promo which will never expire. The current promo is an extra 15% off.

That was their original plan for like a month but they backtracked on it
That they would even consider it is enough to keep me away. Why controlling my volume level needs to go through someone's server in the cloud I never understood anyway.

Should I upgrade my Sonos One Gen2 to the Era 100? They are working fine.

I have the same problem. Gen 1 Play 1 can connect with the new system, but not Play 5. I had to create a different network and log in to use them. Quite annoying. The speakers still works fine, just not in the same network.

Sound quality is noticeably better on the Era 100s. Esp if you use it as a standalone speaker like I do.

Does anyone know how long the 30% off coupon stays into your account? I still see an old 15% off coupon for a Playbar that I 'upgraded'. I just did same for another device and now have the 30% off coupon to use. Just wondering how long it will stay in my account for.

Edit: Just saw above response that the coupon drops to 15% after Feb. I guess it's time to use it.

Argh that's terrible. I also have gen 1 5s. Does anybody know if the 'old' app supports the new speakers are we must go to the new app (and hence can't support our Gen 1 speakers which I have a significant investment in)?

I mean I understand the need to move on... but these are $$$ speakers which should have at least current - 3 gen support for their price.

Old app does NOT support the newer speakers.

I have both. For surround, no, there is not enough sound coming out of rear speakers to really appreciate the difference. For standalone, yes, Era 100 has better more articulate highs and more bass. Sounds noticeably better, and it has a bit of stereo separation by having two tweeters although still a single woofer.

Using sonos SL for rear and tried sonos era100 as rear speakers too. Not much of a difference and in my opinion does not make sense to upgrade. So decided to get the Era 300's, which is good standalone

You can use this link to determine which app your speakers are compatible with. Most speakers are compatible with Gen 2 app (except Play:5 Gen 1), and the older zone players are also S1 only: https://support.sonos.com/en-us/a...patibility

No issues have both apps, and systems on both. I have 4 of the Play:5 Gen 1 speakers around my home in various rooms and a Connect for outside (all running S1) and a new HT system (Arc + Sub + Era 100s) in my family room. Each system works great and has near-identical functionality. The only thing I can't do is group the speakers from the different systems together to play the same content at the same time.
