I love tteokbokki, I'll give all 3 flavors a try. Bought 2 packs for each.

No need to be concerned about the sodium levels like someone was in the comments. Just don't eat all of the sauce.

Tteokbokki goes well with hardboiled egg fyi. Throw in some green onions as well.

If you wanted to go a step further, buy some fishcakes from ur local asian grocery and throw some in as well.

There's no right way or wrong way to use the exact ingredients but the sauce is the main thing. You should be able to get most of this stuff in your local asian market. My may is not conventional so here it is.

You can google how to make this stuff in the web but here's my ingredients

1 2-lb or 1kg of plain rice cakes, note that you can buy the flat kind and not the roll kind.
3 tablespoon of gochujang paste. Note if it is too hot, you can mix 1/2 of hot gochujang paste and the other half black bean paste.
1-2 tablespoon of raw sugar
1 tablespoon of soup stock powder instead of soy sauce for the umami flavor especially if it has msg
1 6-10 oz of fish cakes. Note that I never used fish cakes and used 1 lb of ground pork instead because it was cheaper
1 tablespoon of garlic
For vegetables:
I use about 12oz to 1lb of green cabbage or napa cabbage.
1 onion chopped
You can use mushrooms or scallons but this is optional.
You can use hard boiled eggs too but it is optional.

Yeah. Cause 1/4 tsp of salt is a lot!

Same as 3 tbsp of ketchup.

Thanks for keeping us updated on how healthy you are

Rice cakes are one of the stranger things to come out of Asian cuisine. It's extremely chewy. It's like eating a thicker gummy bear. I think that's the best way to describe it. Western cuisine doesn't really have a comparison, other than maybe eating chicken gizzards? But even than the comparison isn't good enough.

It is really weird. I'm not into it. I'd rather just eat pasta noodles. I feel like I could choke on it if not careful enough. Every year people die eating Mochi which is also extremely chewy (gets stuck in the throat if too big of a piece is swallowed). Both are made with glutinous rice.

How many people die of heart disease from the proliferation of non-Asian diets?

610 sodium. No me
The nutrition label report all the sodium used in the sauce, but in practice you're only gonna take in a portion of the sauce that coats the rice sticks you eat. I often find the sauce too overwhelming and simply put less in. You can easily find yourself using half the sauce packet and still see plenty of sauce left on the bowl by the time you're done eating.

Did you know that many flavors cannot be tasted without the presence of salt? Think fries without salt. You have to add a little salt just to taste everything. Light to medium light salting for the win.

I've tried different brand, but Tteokbokki is pretty good, as you boil you can add pasta or/and plain noodle, drain hot water and just mix with hot sauce... yummy

That sounds like a good idea, rotini or other short pasta seems like a good mix.

Thank you so much! I have a few Asian markets nearby and there's an H-Mart opening soon near where I live.
I am very grateful for you taking the time to share your recipe. I'll message you when I make my own. I hope you're having a good day!
the recipe that's given here is good, but simpler tteokbokki can be very good as well.

boil the rice cakes for a couple minutes to soften them up. My wife likes them crispy, so i stir fry them alittle for texture

for the kids, I'll add some soy sauce and sesame oil
for us, I'll use a spicy/sweet mixture similar to this:

Do you need someone to handhold you? If you feel the need for someone to shit on a post to ensure you stay under your salt limits, then I understand. But I would recommend you look at the nutrition facts yourself and not trust a SD poster verbatim
I already looked at the nutrition info but I still appreciate someone pointing out relevant information. I just don't understand why you're being so combative about this. No one shit on anything except you with your unnecessary attitude. You might want to get your blood pressure checked. Seriously.

That way you get all of the sugar but none of that troublesome salt

You're welcome, I forgot to mention that you have to add about 1 tablespoon of Gochugaru flakes. Make sure you don't get the powder and too big of the flakes. Here's an amazon link for the texture and you don't have to buy this brand as it is cheaper to buy by the bag.

https://www.amazon.com/Wang-Sun-D...B0B1HNCDSM

if you cook this stuff for the first time, go easy on the sugar, Gochugaru flakes and especially the gochujang paste. After you cook the stuff ,taste test it to if it is not hot and/or sweet enough to see if you need to add more.

Is this a good price and product -- or should I just go to my local Korean market?
