Thought this was a locking pin, it isn't. Only allows you not to deal with the hairpin safety pins.

i have had this thing going on 2 or 3 years now, and it is pretty sweet. tempted to buy another but i have zero reason to have a second pin since i have only one truck, lol.

Anyone have one and have long term feedback on the mechanism working over time exposed to weather?
Does the rotation of the locking mechanism seize up due to rain causing oxidation and or road grit, or is it tend to stand up to the test of time reasonably well?

And those few added details give a lot more context than if it was potentially stored inside the vehicle most of its life.
Thank you for context.

Yeah man. As soon as you asked I realized I didn't clarify. Can't say it will last forever, but it sure hasn't show signs of slowing down yet. The "as I said" was to just restate that it had been a few years, with the added clarification that It has definitely been exposed to the elements that entire time.

You're knuckles will thank you!

that is technically a rule in most states. but ive kept a hitch in my reciever of every vehicle ive owned since the turn of the century and not only have i not been pulled over... ive also been rear ended on more than one occasion and there was never issues with the insurance company.

ive never had someone ever claim they've actually been pulled over for it. and i know a lot of people that tow. worked for landscapers for years, etc.

obviously make the decision for yourself, but personally, i tow often enough that im not taking that dumb thing out when im not using it. even if there was a real financial risk.

Which is exactly what I need on my atv. I have lost a pen and had to rig up something with the nail or something like that before. For my truck, I would only use something with the lock on it. Yes you can break them I've had to break one off myself ... However just a little bit of prevention for the would be these. Although if they're these for stuff like that, they're not haphazardly coming, they're bringing the big dogs anyways.. so I guess let's just say so you won't get the parking lot vandals to want to do stuff to you for fun

I switch to using this same receiver pin/clip 5 years ago with regular use all year round in Buffalo New York. So it's seen lots of salty roads and long road trips to Florida. I love it, no more busted knuckles trying to get that darn clip out. It's the only clip my wife is able to use too. We're frequently switching out our receiver for different trailers, luggage rack, bike rack, etc. It's been holding up just fine. I too was thinking of buying a second one but our original one is holding up just fine.

I originally paid 11.29 on Amazon 6/14/18

I also recommend this hitch stabilizer. Specially with luggage and bike racks. I also use it when towing our 30ft boat long distances. It really helps tightening things up. I've tried 5 or 6 different styles that this one is the best and most universal.

Binghamton, NY here. I leave mine in, and have definitely had cops pull up behind me at intersections. I didn't know that was a violation. Seems unfair that I'd get a ticket for having a ball on my Honda Pilot when every lifted diesel Super Duty pickup in my area has massive steel aftermarket bumpers above the height of most passenger vehicle bumpers. Although lots of those guys also have 100% illegal opaque tints, yet the police don't do anything.

There are many good reasons to want to leave some type of a mount attached long term where locking pin is the practical solution:
- you keep a bike rack, flat rack, or something similar on the car
- you tow frequently
- you prefer the next person that rear ends you to do less damage to your rear bumper Wink

I do think this product is poorly named at best and falsely advertised at worst. A lock pin should have a lock on it.

Master Lock is the brand name.

None of these justify the downsides of leaving your hitch installed. Frankly, it should be illegal. It basically bypasses safety measures built into the design of the car's bumper, and transfer more of the impact energy directly into the frame. Bumpers are mandatory for a reason and leaving your hitch installed is selfish and dangerous.

Need a safe space, too??
