FYI, Just Josh reviewed this laptop and labeled it one of the worst of 2023 because it was very loud and the fans would cycle up and down frequently. Shame too because for a non-gaming laptop, this has great features.

EDIT: I even looked further into this because it really is an interesting laptop. There were some threads about a BIOS update. But it doesn't look like it resolved the issue. There was even a second BIOS update on the issue and it didn't seem to resolve it. That's as recently as November 2023. https://community.acer.com/en/dis...runs-noisy

Great price for a maxed out non-gaming laptop. I wish more 14in would come like this

Then get a MacBook. Or don't shop for laptops with OLED displays.

Did that laptop have a dedicated GFX card with an OLED screen @ 120HZ? These premiums unfortunately come with a cost and that's battery life.
Yeah, but tbf even non gaming laptops there is basically nothing on the windows side that can match a modern MacBook.

Yeah, but tbf even non gaming laptops there is basically nothing on the windows side that can match a modern MacBook. The thinkpad z16 or x1 are kind of close but still several hours behind.

Imo though 6-8hrs out of a laptop is all you really need. Charging overnight isn't a big deal especially with usbc chargers it's not a big deal at all.

16GB is on-board, correct (LPDDR5)? So no upgrade path for RAM?
correct ... wish they had just went a bit to make it 32GB. There are rumors Microsoft is pushing vendors to have min 16GB RAM for its upcoming Win 12 OS. So, this would be the borderline of min recommendation!

I have the previous gen of this and really like it. It is obviously for a specific customer that wants portability without sacrificing screen size. If you don't care about having a sub 3 lb laptop, this probably isn't for you...there are either higher performers (that are heavier) or laptops that are a better performance to $ value. Personally, I love having it handy to use when I'm sitting on the couch...it's so thin and light it fits vertically in a little device charging caddy I have.

Amazing screen and CPU performance for a thin and light. My only real gripes were the keyboard feel, lacking numpad (which they've addressed) and battery life (wish they had found a way to squeeze in a 70 WHr battery or something, especially with the battery hog high refresh OLED). Still, it you prefer Windows to Mac, I challenge you to find anything with this performance and price point in a similar form factor. And if you prefer Mac, hope you have a big wallet!

Is it worth paying $100 more for new over "certified refurbish" with 2 year warranty?
I think I might go this route just for the numpad and higher refresh screen

How does this compare to the one Micro Center is selling for $800? That one has an i7.

The reviews for this laptop are really bad, you have been warned. Most complain about the fan noise despite having an efficient AMD CPU. There are major issues with the cooling system of this laptop.

I got a similar one from Costco a couple months back. Typing on it now. I'm going to return it primarily because of the fan noise and heat. When plugged in the fan comes on quite often and is very noticeable and annoying to me. And had it on my lap the other day and it was quite hot. Too bad, because I really like the screen. Might try an LG Gram with better battery life and sacrifice screen quality a bit.

Got the last gen of this with the Ryzen 6800U and 60hz OLED along with a centered keyboard/trackpad and no number pad. It was $550 refurbished, it's a great laptop, really good

I've got a lenovo low end series gaming laptop, it's thin and light and quite pleasant but the fan always blowing was irritating. Games I'm wearing a headset or there's a bunch of noise blowing through the laptop speakers and it's noisy by design a little fan noise isn't too noticeable at all, I wouldn't utter a peep in complaint, but when watching videos and listening to speech and music it was irritating. Got deeper into the windows power settings and set it to lower power settings and the fan hasn't run yet during these tasks. I'm gonna have to shortcut or leave that setting window open because it has to be toggled on and off for efficient or power performance when switching types of tasks.

You're saying "non-gaming" like it's a good thing or a feature. All that means is less performance.
It's a "ultraportable" type which is generally never going to overlap with the gaming category as far as I'm aware. It's amazing it plays games as well as it does, the 780m is impressive for an iGPU
