I own the standard, non-AX version and have used it extensively in my travels domestically and globally. There's a walkthrough published by gli on this exact topic here: https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/e...ve_portal/

This is also great for cruises where they base your cost on per device. Hook this up first and tie to your account and then connect all your devices to the gl to save. Granted this only works when in your room, but definitely helps for those cruise line that charge per device.

With amazon business account, there is an additional $31 promotional certificate that can be clipped which brings the original $82.90 down by extra $31 and total price comes to about $51.90

Yeah, it's super weird. This is the version I've used for years without a problem -

Thanks actually just found out they're all the same according to their description:

Some carriers have hidden the original EasyTether app. They cannot do
this because of the latest FCC tether rules.
Note that all paid EasyTether versions function the same way. There is
no difference. You can buy whatever is visible with your carrier.

Thank you for this!! I was wondering if an equally powerful router is needed at the home base or "exit node"? If it's plugged in, hardwired, no wi-fi needed, could the domestic router be more cost effective?

Like the GL.iNet GL-AR750 on SD for like $20 bucks. I read on https://thewirednomad.com/vpn that you could even use your Apple TV + Tailscale as an exit node now. (As if I fully understand all of this yet lol)

I installed the Tailscale app on the AppleTV and have configured it as an exit node. Subscribe to the Tailscale youtube channel and you'll find how to set it up. From my research, many have stated that the AppleTV uses very little power compared to even Raspberry Pi modules! The benefit to having the AppleTV as an exit node -- in addition to what I just stated -- is that my internet traffic will be protected because of Tailscale's VPN capability when I travel overseas. Furthermore, Youtube TV and other sites will not "work" in certain locations. When I was in Vienna, Austria, before enabling Tailscale, I wouldn't be able to connect. Once it was enabled (with the Apple TV as exit node), I was able to visit Youtube TV and many other sites that have geographic locks. (They enable it for security and to prevent Europeans from accessing certain US content).

Amazon you dont have to pay for returns, whereas you do if you buy direct. I got this direct, it had old firmware, old documentation, and was unstable, so had to return. Wavering whether to get it from Amazon now that they updated their buggy firmware.

Updating firmware isn't hard and can get newer documentation on their website Confused

Thanks to share your experience.
1. I have no plan to returns other than for warranty or RMA.
2. Old Firmware? I don't care, I bought after someone confirmed EAP supported after upgrade to firmware 4.6
3. Old document? Easy, check on GL.iNet directly
I read a lot of the reviews on Amazon. There is a significant fraction of people who had issues with the unit. My personal experience was one of those. I was of the same attitude of yours. After I updated firmware and read the documentation, mine was unstable. no matter what I tried it was unstable. This is coming from someone who owned the Mango, the slate and had no issues.

So even if I returned it for warranty or RMA, I would still pay for shipping if I got it directly from GLinet, whereas Amazon I would get a free return and get another one.

Can someone share a guide on how people use routers like this to work abroad while VPNing to the States? I've been googling but don't seem to know the search term to reach a straightforward guid.

Been trying to figure out which of GL.iNet routers are best for this, or if this router works well.
VPN service, like NordVPN, runs on the device usually, not the router. I'm sure it's possible though. You then pick where you want your location to be. So if your in USA and want to use Singapore ip you pick Singapore, and visa versa. It then routes your Internet through that country. Hope this helps.

Purchased one on 2/11 at a higher price and it's still within the return window, does Amazon do price adjustment?

They don't usually. They suggest buy and return the more pricey one.

Wondering the same thing. Amazon keeps mentioning to me that I'm qualified to convert but I have no idea what that entails.
There is no need to convert your account to business account.
You can create a new business account and link to your personal account. If you personal account with prime, the linked business to become prime Duo to share the prime

Hmm, do I keep my $16 Slate, which is probably perfectly adequate (but old tech), or keep the Beryl AX?

I could potentially use the Beryl if my home router took a dump, until a replacement is ordered.
Beryl likely handles multiple connections much better. USB-C.

Slate is lighter/smaller, cheaper.

I would keep both, never know when the Slate would be handy. Especially for $16

You do not need to do that. If you follow the documentation, when you connect your first device to the router it will connect and register with the portal. After that you can connect as many devices as you want. I also use tailscale onto it to tunnel back to my network for "VPN". I'm working on cloudflare but GL uses very old openwrt so it is difficult to get up to date packages. For instance you just cant update tailscale like I can from my DIY openwrt router which is a shame.
When I use Beryl AX as repeater it is very slow. Ping is 1200-1500 ms.

This little wifi 6 router actually works awesome if you flash OpenWrt to it. Better than most $300+ routers on Amazon, save for its bigger brother the GL-MT6000.

Dumb question but is this a mesh router or can it be used that way? We had our Internet company come out and he hooked up what he called a "mesh router" in the back bedroom to " extend coverage across the house." They want to charge another $10 a month for it though, I was hoping something like this would work the same way?

P.s. I know $10 a month isn't much but everything adds up yk, plus we are all on this app to save money I think

10 is rental fee for mesh router? Just get a pair of router, or any wireless router as repeater? This can be a repeater.
