Keep in mind the big picture....literally...of a trade in. If you've been looking at the Echo Show 10 or 15 (or any others), you can buy one of these and use it for a trade in. Currently, my Echo Show 5, 1st Gen from 2019 with get me a $20 trade in Amazon gift card, PLUS 20% off a new Echo product. The Echo Shows 10 and 15 are $249 and $279. So the $20 you spend on this is a wash with the $20 gift card, but you're still getting 20% of a new Echo product. And that's off the CURRENT price, so you can save it until Black Friday, or Prime Days when they lower the prices on the Echos.

But if you just want it for the Echo 5, this is a great deal. I can't tell the difference in the 1st Gen vs the 3rd Gen. Both of them frustrate you just as much: "to listen to specific music, try Amazon Unlimited...would you like me to sign you up?" No! "Ok, here's a totally unrelated song you didn't request..." Smilie

I agree with the frustration. Thanks Alexa but for the billionth time, NO. Although we do get the song to pop up frequently on first try but sometimes we just want to play music with out being given the same sales pitch every request.

I've started replacing my 5 inch shows with Echo Dots. Unless you really need the screen, the dot is so much better at hearing requests and faster at responding.

Just looking for something to play youtube videos at my desk at work in the background, nothing else at all really, would this suffice?

We put one of these in the kitchen, but the screen is just too small for videos. I suppose if it's sitting right next to you, it might be ok, but we moved to the Echo Show 8, which is a much more usable size (and better sound for music). At this price, though, it's worth a try.

I have the echo show 10. It was a novelty device for 3-4 years. I would show it off to female friends. But I no longer find its news articles, alexa hints, videos, etc useful anymore and I don't listen to music. The show 10 is too large, the echo 5 is too small, so I assume the echo 8 is probably the right size for most people. Just like the echo auto, the echo input, and the echo flex, I have retired my echo show.

I use mine as a glorified weather display. Wish it could more but it's a pain in the pass to have to use the Alexa app to make this thing more useful.

Totally agree. It's actually fantastic at instant, accurate weather forecasts locally, or anywhere in the world just out of dumb curiosity. And it's amazing at quick math calculations.

But after it's set up, I don't want to go back into the app and figure out how to remove the new update, icons, notifications, or the "it might be time to reorder" prompts that seem to happen more and more every day. The yellow line on the bottom used to be exciting, and meant that there was a package coming...now, it's just something else I ignore.

But you can't see what the alerts are it's sending you. You see a glowing alert light, but that's it.
