The Ally literally has to be plugged into a wall to be faster than the Steam Deck.

That's the funny lil bit people like to leave out 😂

https://www.tomshardware.com/vide...benchmarks

"The common wisdom for handheld PC gaming purposes at this point is that the Steam Deck LCD or Steam Deck OLED are your best bet for an entry-level experience. The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme performs quite similarly to these units when on battery, and only gets its big performance wins when plugged into a wall— as seen in one of our benchmarks of the Ally Z1 Extreme vs the Steam Deck below."

Like yeah my PC is also faster than a deck when plugged into a wall
The Deck is underpowered compared to the Ally, and only plays well with your Steam Library. The Ally plays damn near everything you throw at it. There's no comparison to be made. Selling my Deck is the best thing I did. Your bias is beyond evident, seems like you're repeating what you heard online.
wow.. the price of this damn thing really is crashing... it was a terrible investment for $700 when I bought it new. I really messed up spending money on this.

As someone who owns both, this isn't true.

- Steam OS is a much better UI and doesn't have the bloat and overhead of Windows.
- 64GB Steam ($350) with a SSD upgrade (about $50 for 512GB) is still $100 cheaper.
- With Steam Deck, you don't have to worry about frying your MicroSD cards.

Why recommend the LCD Deck at this point? Having owned both that and the OLED, I'd say it's a night and day difference. You get a far superior 90 Hz screen. Faster RAM for small performance uplift. And most importantly way better battery life.

I have an OLED. Yes, it's a lot better, but if saving money is your priority, the cheapest LCD can't be beat.

Be prepared to have to return it if you buy it. I purchased the non-extreme version open box excellent, and the charging port was broken on arrival.

Best buy open box seems to either be brand new or broken.

Yes, open box can be old stock that's taking up space in the store. Not necessarily a used product. But packaging can be damaged sometimes.

One of my favorite purchases I've made for gaming. If you have the option, go in store and ask to see the open box models before you buy one. I got an "Open Box - Good" model that was in perfect condition and just rated as "Good" due to missing the little cardboard kickstand that I personally would have never used anyway.
