Walmart has the RCA RPJ167 1080P 450 ANSI lumen LED projector for $65 free shipping

This item is now on clearance so who knows how long they will still have it before it runs out.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-10...1812141904

This price is only $5 higher than BF price. This projector is of course significantly higher than the sold-out RPJ280 ($30) but you get a significantly higher lumen with THREE female HDMI ports (instead of only 2 female HDMI, one male HDMI within a weird recess on the RPJ280)
  • 50,000hr LED lamp life
  • Also has two USB 2.0 to power stream stick as well as to plug in the flash drive to show movies and listen to music
  • Has two 5W speakers. Not very loud but will work decently for quiet environment.
  • I have this as well as the RPJ280 and I think the price premium of the RPJ167 over the RPJ280 is worth it. You do get a better built product in the RPJ167 compared to the RPJ280
  • There is also a 4K interpolation mode that allows this projector to emulate 2160p at 30hz. Found this out when connecting it to my laptop.

This thing is definitely NOT trash. obviously the construction is cheaper than my 720p Sharp DLP projector that i bought for $1500 several years ago. But it's definitely usable. For one thing, a lot of the toy amazon projectors are just 360p or 480p native resolution pretenders that basically just trying to pass by as 1080p.

This is definitely not one of those. This one even has a usable 2160p 30hz emulation as an unlisted feature

The corner blur issue is definitely less of the issue on this one compared to the RPJ280. I also have the Vankyo V620 which does have the corner blur issue.

Of all the three cheap projectors, this one is definitely the best one IMO
I don't have this projector, but I have a Vankyo V700W that I got off of eBay for like $37.00 that has basically the same specs as this. Comparable lumens, sound output, etc... Absolutely it's a toy, but it can be really fun, honestly, provided you know what you're getting and keep your expectations tempered. I project a 100" image to a pull down screen I have in my family room. It probably throws 100" from maybe roughly 10 ft? I'd have to measure it to be sure. Picture quality for what I have is pretty good. Decent color reproduction, decently bright, and 3.5mm out to my sound bar in the room makes the sound issue negligible. Whatever you do you'd definitely want to make sure you have an external sound device.

Image gets soft/out of focus around the corners, and I'd expect that's going to be standard on any projector in this price range. I've hooked an Xbox Series S up to it and had a lot of fun playing Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy at 100". It's immersive in a way that smaller TVs just can't match. Obviously there's a hit to picture quality vs whatever 4K TV you currently have, but again just going in with your expectations at reasonable levels I think most anyone would enjoy it for what it is. I get mine out any time were doing a movie night at home and it's just fun, and everyone likes being at the "theater".

Anyway, I hope that helps and feel free to ask any other questions!
well, it's good to see projectors getting a lot cheaper. Hopefully we will get a true 4K projector under $100 soon!

I picked up the lower spec RPJ280 before it sold out, and it's definitely usable in a mostly dark room at 250 lumens (we had it somewhere between 100" and 120"). This one is 450, and should be that much better.

The only complaint on the RPJ280 is that there's a little blur in one corner (but for $30, it wasn't a dealbreaker).

Bought the same projector for $30 too and I was very surprised how good it is for $30. I got a cheapo from Amazon as a gift couple of years ago, probably around same price or even higher, and it was unusable. I have the same blur issue as you too, but still a very good deal.

the $30 projector is quite noisy. I'm wondering whether this one has the same loud fan issue.

I feel like every budget projector I've seen has problems with sharpness in corners because of lens imperfections. Annoying when looking for it, but also fairly easy to ignore after a while unless of course you are projecting something where sharpness across the full length and width is critical.

On most of the "higher end" ones that claim to be updated for 2023, they've resolved this issue.

Pretty sure the workaround was to use the same size screen, but at a higher resolution and just mask off part of it.

I'm debating getting this so that I can help evaluate what screen size I want before pulling the trigger on thousands for another projector. Are these actually usable or more like toys?

How do these compare to say the Amazon cheap projectors?

This is junk right? I mean I know it is for the price. But has anyone tested this before. I don't want to look up on YouTube

I was more thinking if I'd have any use for it after I have a real setup. Movie nights in the backyard or something or if this is just trash.

All projectors, aside from some of the laser ones, are noisy.

These are working with very limited space, so there's not much you can expect without making them bigger.

I have this projector. I get a decent picture but it is certainly noisy so you'd better be prepared to use headphones or max the volume to overcome it.

Is the nose too annoying for gaming? More Mario Kart vs Baldur's Gate.

Wont drop that low until the next technology becomes standard. If you want a cheap decent 4K, get a refurb BenQ when it goes on sale. Think it was around $350-$400, but it's pretty decent.

just chain four of them together stacked 2x2, and BAM you got yourself a true 4k projector for less than 300 quid!

..that's how this all works, right? 😅😅😅

It's probably not as noticeable in Mario Kart compared to Baldur's Gate where you might want to hear the dialogue. It's like a portable fan running on highest setting.

Likely just HDMI 1.4, which is good enough anyway for its purpose

Possible but you would have to align them ... lol..Hopefully we will have true 4K 60hz projector for less than $300 soon!

It's not too bad. I have it on 3/4 max volume and can hear movie dialogs ok
