Thinking about getting this for my MIL.
How forgiving is the self propelled feature of yanking and pulling?
I got her a gas self propelled mower a year ago and I'm always having to buy new gear kits for the self propelled part.
(not picking on her. She is 85 yo and insists on doing all her yard work by herself)

There's a dial you can spin to lower and increase speed. She'll do great

I bought mine almost 6 years ago now and it still runs perfectly, even through incredibly hard use. The self-propel feature on mine is adjustable via an incremental toggle switch from a slight crawl to a nice brisk pace. I highly recommend it to everyone!

She has a yard full of mower land mines, lol. Quite a few trees and many shrubs. I've mowed it myself a few times and it's a constant push forward, back up, swivel, back up, etc.
Very easy to hold the handle and mindlessly pull back on the engaged drive.

yea its super user friendly. I think the trickiest part of the EGO mowers is the part where you hit the start button and pull the handle. If you dont do it in the right order the mower doesnt start up. Not a big deal once you're used to it though

Wonder why they went with 56v instead of 80v for this beast? Just curious how it would perform compared to my non self-propelled, 80v 4ah battery Greenworks Pro?

Better said, would the difference in battery size (7.5 here vs my 4) make up for the voltage difference? Or is that apples to oranges?

I'm still happy with mine after a few years of use, but I do miss the raw power of my old gas mower, which was noticeably higher.

This is the lowest rated model (73/100) from Ego on Consumer Reports, however everything is still rated very good or excellent, and they still "recommend" it. Not sure why but it's lower rated than its non self propelled version

I own this model and it is just as good as the 163cc Honda that it replaced. I have a 1/4 acre and have aboit 1/2 of the 10mah battery left after mowing and using the weed eater. It's a really good mower with the exception of the the self propel which is my biggest gripe. The self propel has a delay before it engages so if your like me and are used to it instantly engaging like on a gas mower, your probably gonna be annoyed with it especially if you're engaging it on and off rapidly to get you out of a tricky spot. Other than that.. the mower preforms just as good as my Honda did. I don't use the propel at this point unless I'm going a ling distance without disengaging it.

This is a great deal for a great mower. I've had 3 gas push mowers in my life and the Ego is my new favorite. A particularly great buy if you're in the Ego ecosystem already and can use the batteries for other stuff. FYI this mower has the same power as a gas engine and the self-propel is incredibly strong (though adjustable). No funny mow lines, no leftover strips, it just works.

My yard is 1/2 acre, entirely covered with grass. Would I be able to finish the lawn using both batteries?

I have a 1/3 acre yard and it takes about a full 10ah + most of a 4ah to complete. Also, completely dependent on grass length and temp outside. With that said, 2 batteries allows you to charge one while using the other.

I bought this mower last year and love it. However, the self-propelled feature is a little tricky because it seems to lock the wheels for a second after you disengage so you have to consciously pause before you can pull it backward.

One great feature about the self-propel will work even when the mower isn't running. Though, it can be a little startling to accidentally push the button when the mower is off.
