New wording for Metro unlock policy:
https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy
"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."
Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...

I did the free-ish 11 deal at Metro in store about a year ago, oh boy, am I glad you can do this online now, even if I have to wait a few days. Spent at least 2h there to transfer the numbers from boost back then. I don't think they will ever seem me again in a Metro store. Second line is cheaper, so 2 phones for about $300-sh is a great deal I think. I expect these will trade in nicely for an iPhone 16 as well at a later time, though you could grab one then when you need it from the used sites.
I am trying to unlock it today and I am getting this error message:
Unable to connect to server at this time. Please try again later.
When I click continue, it says I haven't met the requirements for unlock. It needs 180 days from the day of activation.
Am I doing something wrong. Thanks.

Ok, think I figured it out.
In Settings, search for "Unlock". Select the app Unlock (pink icon) near the bottom. Storage & Cache -> Clear storage -> back -> Open ( to launch app).
This created the permanent unlock option for me. Had to click this option a few times but eventually unlocked.
9/5 activation on Android 13 Jan updates. metro sim installed
Set up the phone and logged into my Metro online account (updated my profile/address/did email verification) -- let it sit for few hrs then did a device swap online over to my Moto G
Wanted to order another iP11 but price went up so skipped it -- ended up ordering the $20 tablet
Reset the iPhone then went through basic setup without logging in and skipped the passcode (wanted to make it easy to access the Settings menu) -- traded it in without issue at the Apple Store for $170 Apple GC
I'm still waiting to see if an S23 FE comes back in stock. It's the best Android phone Metro sells. Feels like a near flagship and supports Dex which is very nice.
Instead, you can flash it with the stock Samsung build to remove all the metro bloatware. If you're very familiar with flashing parts, head over to the Samfw.com website and look under XAA for stock rom. Only do it after it is unlocked because you need the metro build to unlock the phone after 180 days.

One small update to steps. I had to force close the unlock app before clearing storage and opening it again.
Steps I followed:
1) In Settings, search for "Unlock". Select the app Unlock (pink icon) near the bottom.
2) Force close the app
3) Clear storage/cache
4) Open the app
5) Now the option for permanent unlock should show up
6) Had to click permanent unlock 3 times before it actually worked and asked for a restart to apply the unlock.
