Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

How is the iphone 11 vs iphone 12? Assuming the total price of the 11 would be $120 and the 12 is $170, which is a better deal?

Anyone else having problem logon to Metro-By-T-Mobile website?

I received the phone and activated it 2 days ago. I was able to make phone calls and textings, so seemed like all is well.
Now I am trying logon to my account for the very first time, using my phone # and PIN (8 digits I created when I was ordering the phone).
But keeps on getting this error message:

"Sorry, the information provided does not match our records. Please try again."

I think my PIN is correct, and then tried a few more times, still couldn't get in.

So I clicked "Forgot account PIN" then getting another error message:
"Something went wrong while serving your request"

Is there a problem with Metro website at the moment?
Any resolution to this? I am having the same issue.

purchased Saturday afternoon at 5pm. Delivery shows this Friday. The first one I purchased was last month from Total by Verizon for free with port in then add the $50. plan. It came to $53. If you don't need the included Tracfone plan (you also get a basic case and charger plug of which these items are not included with Total) get the Total phone. Very little bloatware with these and no Total by Verizon screen flashed. Much cleaner than the Moto's.
I have a Metro phone and want to port the number to Total to take advantage of that offer. My Metro service ends on March 17. If I port say tomorrow, would that work. Will it be enough time. Not sure how long it takes to actually be ported/activated.

Got my Iphonne 11 , inserted the sim card ( turned phone on and off a few times - waited 15 minutes )and when dialing out it would't do it and kept connecting to t-mobile.
Tried to activate at Metro but was showing activated ( it wasn't - didnt get the confermation email ) . Dialed out again ( to my other phone number ) , got t-mobile again , they transfered me to Metro and Metro rep had to manually activate the phone .Then I received th email .
Am I the only one that had this problem ?
I had the same issue. Did not get the activation email. Inserted the received SIM, tried calling a known number but got a message stating that the ported in number was not activated. After calling the supplied number and bouncing around between T-Mobile and Metro a few times, finally got through to someone at Metro. The rep activated the ported in number over the phone, then shortly after, received the activation email.

Got the same. Had to call in to get it activated. Be prepared to be bounced between t-mobile (post-paid) and Metro (pre-paid). Just ensure you tell them you want to activate on Metro before you start the process.

FYI there's talk on reddit that they updated their unlocking backend in Dec and they might be/or start enforcing the 180 of line activity that's always been their terms, but never enforced.

there is always talk of enforcing 180, and it could happen anytime...

Fwiw, my Moto G Stylus 2023 unlocked at the 180 day mark the other night. I can see them starting to enforce this rule now that you can get the iPhone and other better port-in deals online now, but at the same time, maybe their plan is to also force a lot of the crappy dealer locations to close up over the next couple of years.

Yeah, just like those "market gurus" that keep saying "The stock market is going to crash" without giving a firm date of when. If/when it happens, they will loudly proclaim "I TOLD YOU SO".

Unlock policy on their website states 'One hundred eighty (180) days must have passed since the device's activation date'.

Unless I missed it elsewhere, they don't specifically mention you need Metro service for the 180 days so don't think they can enforce it if you want the unlock.

Not sure, but I believe Metro has a few days of grace period? Other more experienced will chime in. My Total phone arrived quickly though. Ordered Feb 6 and arrived Feb 9.

The unlock after 180 days has been an open secret for a while. Maybe they didn't mind since most deals are in-store only. But now that they are having the deals online, they might change that.

The 180 days unlock starts from the date of activation. But if you are not a paying customer at day 180, do they have to unlock the phone for you?

Only get the phones if you are willing to take the risk. But you can always trade in the phones for other deals, so it's very little risk.
