Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...

Tell them you don't care phone number port-in, just assign a new phone. you will be ready to go instantly
You mean ask them to assign a new phone number?
Won't that void the promotion of the iphone - since it was only for transferring a number? They could then charge the $499 price.

All lines are new. I waited for each one to be activated before adding a line. I ported 3 numbers from Google to get the discount on phones and the monthly price shows $103.33 for all 3 even though it says $40 for each line if I click on each individually.
When I called them they just said the port request will take 10-15 days more. Mine has already been pending for 9-10 days now. How did you have them do the request manually and port immediately? Thanks.

For those who got the request completed successfully, what did you tell the agent?
I told them that "something is wrong with the port. I can make calls and send text but can't receive either". Then I ask them" can you fix this"?

Nope! You paid already; it is their fault for not porting in on time to prevent you from using the service! They do not care! If you use a one-time VCC, your service is already active; nothing would charge you again! That is how prepaid things work—everything is paid in advance!

I agree. But unfortunately I was stupid -I did NOT use a Virtual credit card. I used a real credit card number. So they could technically charge me again - can't they? The iPh 12 were $99.99 with transfer number. Without a number transfer it is $499.99.

Also will this affect the unlocking procedure? The fact that the number is not ported over. Maybe they won't unlock the phone in 6 months?

They will manually process the port in. Wait one week (or so) and then call. This is a new system in place, and it is not automatically processed... It goes through the system but hangs until someone manually overides it or approves it because it is a land line. This problem will most likely be resolved in the coming months as they already have a bulletin on this. Just call, don't run your mouth too much. Just politely ask to be transferred to the port department and then say your port hasn't completed if the rep can push it through manually. If you have multiple lines, say so at once. All the best.

It actually never happened on Metro to charge the full price afterwards. They should not charge anything without permission. Previously, some people got stinged by Boostmobile; they have a special t&c that requires the user to activate the phone; otherwise, it could charge the full price. but Metro is not a rouge company on T-Mobile; no such bad hidden t&c.
You will be eligible to get unlocked after 180 days no matter what!

I received my phone yesterday. Tried to activate today. Same incoming call and text issue. Called them, told them its a GV number. They said it may take a week or so but give it 24 hrs and call us back tomorrow. Not sure if they did anything or not but within next hr, got a text confirming port was complete. Everything is working now. GV number from the google account is gone too.

This is the right phone number, but getting someone that knows how to finish the port is difficult. Multiple calls needed.

Once an agent that knows the system properly works on it, it's just 5 minutes to get the port completed.

I'm looking to get another phone from them but split between the Samsung A54 and S23 FE, both at same price with port-in now. Better processor and more RAM with the S23 FE but no SD storage Frown

If we already have a line with them, is it better to log in first and add a line or just check out as new user with same name and address? Do they limit the number of phones you can get within a particular timeframe? I have an unlocked GV number and don't want to waste it in case the port-in goes wrong or is not approved.

Two things to consider. First, the FE hasn't been around for a long time, and second, the A55 will likely be here shortly.

I called porting department again today. Rep tried eSim taking out physical SIM. It did not work. He told it may be timing issue and he told it will work after 1.5 hours. Later he told me to insert physical SIM. Turned on the phone. Incoming calls/text started working fine.

1. You can compare all you want, but the fact is the S23FE is not available for online ordering at the $49.99 price. As a new customer, it'll show not available for online order. If you select Existing Customer, it makes you log in, after you select Add A Line and check your port-in number, the price will go from $49.99 to $199.99.
2. For other phone makes/models, buying a new phone as Add A Line and it'll offer you $30/month plan if your current line is $65/month.
3. It wouldn't let me add a 3rd line to my account, but some forum members were able to have more than 2 lines in one account.
4. If your order fails to go through, Metro will lock up your GV number for about 4-6 hrs. After that, you can try using that GV number again.

Thank you. I called this number, the agent knew what she was doing. Took about 15 minutes on the phone with her. Google immediately sends an email after that saying the number has been ported away.
