So I activated my phone online then inserted the SIM. The correct number shows up in phone status and I could make a call. However, my GV account still has the number. I can still call out and if I call in, it goes to the GV voicemail. In both cases, the GV number showed up on caller ID of the phone I called. So is my MetroPCS phone really activated or I need to do something else?

My google voice from "cingular" didn't work. But the "Bandwith" all did. Check here before purchasing the $3 port out:

Interesting! "cingular" still exists ?

It is reported that T-Mobile works out of the box on locked S23FE. Does Mint also work?

I bought one i12 and two i11's. I opened the i12 and activated it because I want to try and see if I can tolerate Apple's way of doing things. I originally planned to activate the two i11's on Metro site but not open them in order to sell them later as sealed. However, a person on another forum who used to be a Metro Authorized Dealer said that Metro does check and see if a device had connected to their cell network and had some call/text activities during the 1st month. If not, they might not unlock it (to prevent people from buying phones only to resell). So, I opened the i11s also and activated them. I don't want to wait 6 months to find out Metro didn't unlock them.

I don't want to spread FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Deception), just posting what I did and why. It's your decision to do what you want.
I was leaving it sealed and checking daily on the imeicheck site. It showed "Not Activated" and no verified purchase date. I just opened and activated with sim, but not Apple ID. . The imeicheck site instantly showed all of the following changes: "Activation status/activated", "Apple limited warranty starting today until March 20, 2025", "Valid Purchase date/Yes", "registered device/Yes", "Apple Care eligible/Yes", "Repairs and service coverage/Active", Telephone technical support/Active"

For reference, I activated while sealed on March 13, had Port Dept. complete the GV Port on March 16, then opened and put sim in on March 21

I did the same things with my Metro i12 and i11's and got the same results. If it was activated only through Metro site, the IMEICheck site doesn't show it as Activated, Warranty start date, etc. If activated with the SIM in place (whether signed in with an Apple ID or not), then it shows as Activated along with other information.

That's very concerning! While we're talking about two types of activation, device activation with Apple and SIM activation with the carrier, it's entirely possible Metro may refuse to unlock the device if the sim and the device are never physically paired (even though the account shows the pairing).

I wonder if the pairing changes if you move the sim around. As a T-Mobile postpaid customer, I know from personal experience that you can't do that in order to unlock the device even if you meet the 40 day/paid-off requirement, and the unlock clock may reset if you move the sim back to the original locked device.

1. That's why I decided to unbox all my Metro iPhones and activated them with the SIM. With Metro Android phones, you typically have to unbox them sooner or later to unlock them using the Network Unlock function in Settings.
2. I have no experience with that, so I don't know.

I can confirm s23fe , it is not the case.
Only few cases for postpaid military T-Mobile account or some workaround to make the phone work with T-Mobile SIM..

Is there any carrier at all that unlocks a sealed phone that has never been powered on and connected to their network a single time?

In my experience it has never actually worked with Cricket, Total Wireless, and ATT.

FWIW I have a pixel 6a from Total Wireless I never activated on their network. It's been 60 days but its still locked.

I got a lot of free iPhone11's from Tracfone (a sister company of StraightTalk, Total, etc) through their Rewards Program. I activated them through TF web site, but didn't open the box to insert the SIM. I got them all unlocked after 60 days using a trick that I don't want to post publicly. Send me a PM if you want to know.
