Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

Is there any carrier at all that unlocks a sealed phone that has never been powered on and connected to their network a single time?

In my experience it has never actually worked with Cricket, Total Wireless, and ATT.

FWIW I have a pixel 6a from Total Wireless I never activated on their network. It's been 60 days but its still locked.
Tracfone iPhone 11's were unlocked after 60 days while still sealed.

Most of me owned Metro phones (15~20 phones) (not including the iPhone, which I never wanted to buy). Unlocking worked for the sealed box for 180 days after activation.
off topic : If you never activated your Total Wireless phone , your phone would not get unlocked for sure!

Regarding my own question about whether you can move a Metro sim card around freely, I just tired my first SIM card from Metro in an unlocked device and the answer is no. So to change your device, you'll have to make a request. If you login to your account, there's an option that allows you to submit a new IMEI.

Yes, join the US Military and get deployed overseas, then Metro can unlock your phone earlier Big Grin

Question on porting out. If we do not intend to use the number and it becomes inactive, how can you port out without a pin? Should we all get the port out pin during active state and save it somewhere so in case we want to port out of Metro to get another deal from a different carrier? I wonder if the pin has expiration date or not. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Finally got around to activating the phone/SIM by porting over from Google Voice. Had the same usual problems as everyone else where you could call out but all calls and texts still went to Google - but took care of it with a call to the number in the wiki.

When you log into your new account and see a balance due, that's for the upcoming month, right? I'm pretty positive it is but the presentation as a balance due is a bit misleading. Do we need to cancel the line properly if we don't intend to keep service or should you just let it go and have it close itself due to not paying further?

In the same vein, is anyone just porting back into their original Google Voice account to keep their number? Just a flip flop back and forth?

Honestly you're all set. Auto-pay should be OFF.

If you care about GV number as porting back to GV will cost you money from Google but for most of us GV number is thrown away.

It looks like there's 7-10 days wait to complete the porting from GV numbers for incoming calls/texts to work as they are considered land lines.

Thanks for clarifying. I think I'm actually going to port back because I've had that number as a secondary number on a side account for years. Then it'll be available for anything like this again. To get a GV number these days requires you to have a mobile number that doesn't already have a GV number attached so it's not as easy to get a new number whenever.

I'm trying to get my monies back after Visible decided after 10 days of it working perfectly. To then kick my G Stylus 5G 2023 off the Visible network. One of the phones is factory sealed in box (hoped to use as backup after 6 months. And the other was the one bounced off Visible after ten days. Hope this post is clear & my concerns will be addressed. I never planned to sell these phones.

So I can't switch an activated Metro SIM into a new G Stylus 5G 2023 whether the G Stylus 5G 2023 is activated or not with the SIM it came with? Does it matter when the G Stylus 5G 2023 auto activates (21 days) with the new SIM never in the phone? Or can it even auto activate the phone itself without the SIM being inserted? I know the SIM itself will auto activate.

I've read that some who've ported their number back out before the 30 days of service had problems with the device unlocking. Perhaps OP cgigate could ring in here. They seem to suggest to get a pin for porting which you can do on the website then port out from days 31-40. I plan on porting 2 numbers back to GV because they are too good to let go.(Sequential prefix and repeating digits for last 4)

Wow, you damaged your Visible, now to Metro...
Read wiki, Metro will activate your phone on day 21, no matter your phone or SIM card is trashed , drowned, even sealed in the box...you don't need to put the SIM to activate your phone....it is automation process...

Ohhh. Thanks for the heads up. I'll need to get more info on this, then. I would like to get the number back for paying another $40 to do it? Not so sure that's worth it.

If you don't care to have the same GV number and just want a GV number, you can try obtaining a new GV number and use your Metro number to tie to it. Your Metro number will be discarded later by Metro if you stop Metro service, but that shouldn't affect your new GV number.
