However, this 12 pack of smoked herring [amazon.com] for $11.93 (with 5% S&S) might be a better use of this coupon. That works out to $0.99 per can or $4.89 per pound. Tuna isn't that hard to find on sale, while herring is rarely on sale. It's more of a luxury than a pantry staple though.
Lemon and cracked pepper herring [amazon.com] also has the coupon, but kipper style doesn't.

I looked at my Wellness cat food cans and they do have a lot of vitamins etc so I guess human tuna won't work for cats. That is too bad because at this price it sure as heck is cheaper.

- AAFCO isn't government - it's private advisory group, funded largely by big pet food manufacturers, to lobby government for pet food regulations that benefit them. They will always recommend pet food over any alternative - it's their job.
- Tuna is delicious. Manservant spoiling me with yummy food is good thing, not a bad thing. Yeah, take it away and I'll get upset - who wouldn't! But if I'm hungry enough, I'll eat something else.
- Canned chunk light tuna is very low in mercury. Solid white or tuna steaks might be more of an issue.
- I am well-adapted to eating raw, and even mildly spoiled meat. My less fortunate feline brethren hunt and scavenge. I prefer to give my manservant the honor of doing that for me, but can certainly eat raw fish, birds, rodents, and even insects.
- If you feed me enough raw meat, I wouldn't need a taurine supplement. There is plenty of it in raw meat. Cooking destroys it.
- It would take a boatload of Vitamin E to be poisonous to me. Unlikely you'll get there without adding E supplements.

Lastly, an interesting (but admittedly anecdotal) point. I read stories about cats that make super-old bones, like 30+ years, and most of them I've seen eat a decent amount of human food along with cat food. Maybe the cat food isn't the perfect nutrition the manufacturers would lead you to believe.

Actually wild skipjack is IMO the best but not cheap.
