I would buy a M2 MacBook Air or M1 Pro 14 over this all day at this price and spec.
The 13.3" MacBook Pro is not a pro machine with its dated chassis, older screen, and doesn't have a Pro chipset in it even though Apple calls it a Pro.
I would stay away from the 13.3" MacBooks in 2024.
This is a great machine for anyone who doesn't need a pro. It has the Touch Bar which some people like and some people hate. Otherwise this definitely cheaper than an equivalent MacBook Air. Plus you get a fan to cool the processor so it can sustain a higher performance longer than an air. I bought the m1 version of this machine when only the m1 were out but it was also the best price I could get at the time. You could probably buy this for a senior in high school and have them use it all the way through college depending on their major. 24GB of ram and 1 TB specs shouldn't be ignored at this price because it's the weird MacBook with touch bar. This is a great deal.

That's fantastic.
Now please post a link where we can all find a M2 MacBook Air or M1 Pro 14 with this price and specs.
Nothing, but also nothing special. For the same form factor and lighter, the M2 Air is better. If you want a "Pro" , then the 14" is significantly better with 120hz and color accuracy

I don't know all the hate the first comment is getting, the 14' MacBook Pro is the way to go if you need the Pro. Also note that this comes with the Touch Bar, which I HATE for development, need physical buttons for debug etc

The 13" Apple Silicon MBP has always been an odd duck product to me -- more like a MacBook Air Pro. Despite the impressive amount of RAM and storage here I don't see the draw. Non-pro processor, known slower SSD than the 14 and 16" MBP, display quality on par with the MBA, not the 14-16" MBP. Only two USB ports to the 14" MBP's 3 + SD slot and HDMI out. I'm not really sure who this model is for -- it's overkill for office work and under spec'd, aside from RAM and storage, for heavy multimedia or 3D rendering work. Plus it has the awful Touch Bar rather than the actually useful Fkeys Apple has returned to.

I'm looking for a MacBook to replace a 2015 iMac. It will mostly be used at home for basic photo and video editing, but I travel often and would like to take my Mac with me instead of my work issued MS Surface.
While at home I'd like to connect it to external monitors (ideally 2 if possible).
Does this MacBook Pro 13.3" M2 24 GB 1 TB ($1399) make more sense than the MacBook Air 15" M2 16GB 1TB ssd ($1499) noted in the comments above? Is there another MacBook in the sub $1500 range I should look at?
Compared to the screen in a 14 or 16" MBP, the screen in the 13" MBP is inferior. Compared to nothing, the screen is fine.
I agree. It's a night and day difference. I personally find the MacBook Air screen to be headache inducing while the MacBook Pro screen is absolutely eye candy and easy on the eyes after hours of use. Of course none of this matters if your primary use case is external monitors.

This is my question as well. I will buy a Macbook for the first time and can't decide which one of above 2 options to go with. I won't do any video editing. Will use it for Office applications and web.
