Ryzen 7840U is one of the best mobile processors on the market - best mix of performance and efficiency - plus it comes with the best integrated graphics card. You can't go wrong here - only thing would be if you need more cores for virtualization or maybe some of the Intel features for video editing.

Agreed, but this particular model is not the best in a market IMHO.
I tried it and returned back:

- The display matrix has something like matte film in a middle and it disturbs my eyes a lot
- The fan noise is way more than I was expected for the AMD "U" series (perf mode). The noise itself has a lot of mid-range freq, it is annoying.

Overall, I like my Lenovo T490 with the replaced display. It is slower, but the keyboard is one of the best, and I cannot hear fan noise 90% of time.

You're going to be looking a while. 15-inch laptops have disappeared except for some cheapo models. No current ThinkPads have 15-inch screens AFAIK.

I have never bought an AMD machine before, always intel.

Which core i7 would this be roughly equal to?

Is there a tech review for this machine somewhere?

15" was always/mostly/actually 15.6" They just redefined these as 16" when increasing screen:body ratio.

Yes and the resolution is 16:10 on the 16" screens so the width didn't change much, but did gain some vertical real estate.

I think 14 is the sweet spot for portability, 16" was too big to even carry between home and office so I switched to Z13 (also 16:10) and while it's tiny, I don't think I would have noticed the increase to 14" that much. It's always connected to a monitor at home and at the office anyway so using the laptop screen is like 1% of my use.

I carry a 16ideapad in a messenger bag for 15". No problem and I love the extra real estate. More closely matches 22" monitors and the keyboard has 10key which I need

As good as it gets for integrated graphics. Equivalent to an entry level nvidia /amd GPU.
I believe it is on par with something like a GTX 1650.

I might have a broken one, not sure. I was surprised about fan noise, I have two Mini PCs with the same CPU and they are pretty quiet even under high CPU load.
