If it's just netflix then I would get the regular ipad and save the cash.

This is mostly correct, and I'd very much agree with the comment, but

(1) not a great idea to recommend a Samsung product when people ask for an iPad
(2) Without heavy promotion/discounts, a Galaxy Tab S9/S9+ comes out much more expensive than this iPad at $449.

That said, Samsung tablets are much better for watching videos, as someone who has both Samsung and iPad Pro 12.9 and uses the Samsung most of the time.

If you're just using it for Netflix (or video consumption) get a Samsung OLED tablet. Much better 16:10 aspect ratio that makes better use of the screens pixel count for movies and by far way better image quality due to OLED screen infinity black contrast than this washed out 4:3 aspect ratio LED panel screen on the iPad Air

I prefer Samsung tablets for consuming content but productivity I prefer iPad

Hi I've got a question. My wife's iPad is almost 6 years old and we are in the market for a new one. She only uses it for Netflix. Is this a good average price? Any ideas what I should be looking for and what price? There's just so many options.
If only for netflix, buy something with a wider aspect ratio. Like a galaxy tab or Lenovo. The iPad is too square and you will see big black bars on the top and bottom. You will see thinner bars on wider screens.

I believe the Apple event is only a spec bump, except for one new larger Air model. Which is confirmed by several sources.

Hoping the spec bump includes OLED for the pro models

10th gen. The rumor is that they are releasing new ones soon so the prices may go down. Who knows?

It should be in March or April 2024. Very high chance of it coming out very soon. That's why they are dumping these old models out.

It's rumored to release this week on the Apple website. No Apple event.

If anyone plans to make a purchase sooner than later, just buy it and don't open it yet to see if it will drop even lower.

Apple is about to announce new iPad Airs with M2 chips in about a week according to rumors on the internet. I would wait and see if you're in the market for an iPad Air right now.

I doubt it, no chatter about OLED displays. Hopefully the larger Air will have more than 500 nits but that's wishful thinking.

I'm holding out for the 11 inch M2 sale around $599

I just saw this, it does mention OLED displays

Thank you. What gen and price do you think I should be looking for?
Just FYI -- the "stereo" speakers on the base iPad are next to the lightning port, meaning that when you watch videos in the landscape mode, sound only comes out from one side. This was a dealbreaker for me, but maybe you'll be ok with that. By comparison, This iPad Air has speaker on the diagonal positions so sound is still stereo.

M1 Chip for the Pad OS is way overkill for non-creative users, If people want to use this as a production tool. Get the ipad pro instead with standard 128G storage, you get a much better screen, speaker and camera. if for just media content consumption, you can go with the base ipad for much cheaper, I use ipad 9 for that, its the old design but still support Ipad Pencil version 1. paid less than $180 for it brand new. beware that the base model has limited storage space if you plan to store movies or many apps on it. for work, I use my macbook pro M1 with 1T storage. For basic home use, I have a M1 Mac Mini and use my iPad as my 2nd Monitor (for my Mac Mini) or 3rd Monitor for my macBook Pro via sidecar
