Ok was waiting to post this until I got it to work. I had seen previous deals like this previously for other carriers but now I saw it for AT&T

I had 4 lines, 3 iPhone14 Pro Max, and one iPhone15 pro max all on installment plans

Due to a price increase of .99 per line I read the below

Cancel your service
We hate to see you leave, but we understand you may want to cancel your wireless service. Give us a call at 800.331.0500 so we can help you review your account and discuss your options.
Have an installment plan on one of your devices?
You can:
Pay off the remaining installment plan balance and keep your device. or

Call us at 800.331.0500 to return your device and waive any remaining installment balance. You have until July 31, 2024, to return your device and get your installment balance waived.

I contacted customer service confirmed the deal , got my new service with my new provider , ported my numbers out , AT&T sent me USPS Prepaid Labels and I sent my phones in. They confirmed receiving them . (Keep copies of everything just in case)

Now the hiccup. I was charged a little over 3K on my credit card ( I have automatic payments setup) because they did not apply the above credits to my phones when I returned them. However A few calls to the retention department showing them the web page and I was escalated ICU Dept ( no idea who that was or what it stands for.) and within a few hours they had credited me the amount back to my credit card.

YMMV of course but it's doable and I was able to get rid of AT&T.

Yes , because they were not my phones yet there where still on installment plans . also the iPhone 15 Pro Max I had just purchased it back in November . So obviously they are not going to let you keep them until you pay them off. Which I was not willing to do and then wait for them to get them unlocked. I would have been out the 3K for the phones. I mean it is an option if you want to pay of the device but then its not much of a deal.

So you made those payments for the phone already. Isn't that like renting the phone? And could you get more if you outright purchased the rest of the phone and then sold it?

yes sure, rent , or buy. but I was on the next plan and I upgraded my iPhone every year. Also , one of the iPhone 14's was out of warranty and giving a few issues. So This depends on the phone used values and if you feel like going through he hassle of selling them. But everyone has a different perspective. I just know for me it was the right choice to leave AT&T and thought it might benefit others if they are in a similar situation again YMMV

Ok, didn't mean to imply you were in the wrong. Just something I thought about

OP, I am taking the time to acknowledge and rep you based on your attentiveness to your thread and trying to respectfully help others! I am not in your boat at all. I just like to keep up on Consumer Awareness threads that might affect me. Good on you.
