I replaced fully automatic with pro version. I have no complaints. You need to dial it for each type of beans, but if you stick with the same consistent brand, there is no need to touch anything. Cleaning is easy, just rinse the tray.
For the right price it is a good machine
You still need to flush every few months or so and same with descaling (even with a water softener). Also have to clean out the grinder every so often as well.

Too much work automatic is the way to go much easier.

I've had the Pro a little over 3 months and no issues. If this is your first espresso machine just understand there is a lot to learn, or at least expect to struggle for a little while until you get the hang of it. This type of machine is not a "press 1 button and get coffee." Get a digital scale to measure your dose for each shot and also pull manual shots. The volumetric shot technology it uses is not 100% accurate and makes learning how to pull shots way harder because you can't really know if you're messing up or the machine is. Just hold the button to do a manual shot and weigh your output. Ie if your dose is 18 grams then stop around 36 grams. Having PID for accurate temperatures and also being able to adjust is fantastic (lower for dark roast, higher for lighter roasts)

I have had my Barista Express for about a month now and it's very nice. I was researching different machines and was at the Sur La Table at my local mall which has just about everything and they guy said the Barista Express they had on display and make drinks for people daily with was the same one from when the store opened over ten years ago. That was impressive. I also bought everything I need right from the beginning like the Breville knock box, that distribution tamper that look like a hockey puck, a must have, tamping mat, WDT tool, scale, it comes with a funnel and if yours doesn't get one, another must have and coffee thermometer for your milk. I have also learned that properly steamed milk gets naturally sweet so you should not have to add sugar to your coffee. Let the machine warm up for 20 minutes also. I have a new found respect for baristas now though, the amount of work it takes for one drink is quite a bit.

A lot of Breville's espresso machines are on sale as reflected on numerous vendors such Bestbuy, Crate and Barrel, Macys, and William Sonoma, etc. If you're purchasing, go to one that gives you the most rewards and using a credit card that gives back as well.

I decided to go with WS because they had the more robust rewards plan (WS credit card with CapitalOne).

I purchased the Touch Impress ($300 off and $120 WS credit) and sold my Breville Pro Smart Grinder + Bambino Plus for $500. These newer models use the Euro Bararzista (sp) burrs, a company they acquired. My coffee game went from an 7 to an 8.5. Pretty wild. It's a splurge but worth it if you're into coffee and drink it regularly.

Have the pro. Its a game changer if you are a coffee/espresso person. You can use either bean. Love this thing, originally got it to save on spending money buying overpriced coffee at shops.

I have the base model for 2+ years. Using it every morning. Easy to use and taste great. Best purchase I've made. Get it if you drink coffee everyday.

This is a good machine for people who want an automatic machine without having to mess with anything. You won't pull great shots with it since you can't adjust the pressure or brew temp, but it will be consistent. One suggestion for people who get this is to pick up a 54mm bottomless portafilter for less than $20 on AliExpress. That will give a thicker crema and tastier shot.
Pressure no, you are correct (pressure is displayed only, with the espresso extraction pressure range shown), but there are settings designed to adjust temperature a step or two up or down.
