Same tote was on sale at Costco for 6.99 a month ago. Bought 4. They are nice totes. Only complaint is they are a bit tall and my shelves only fit 1 per row where as Rubbermaid could fit 2 per row. So just be prepared that these are large totes

I can confirm the Costco ones and Home Depot ones are not interchangeable and only one of the brands will stack on the other (loosely) but not vice versa. I can't remember which stacks on which (I suspect it's HDX that fits on top of GreenMade but I'm not near them to confirm) but I do know that my garage has a healthy mix of them and it's a tad annoying. Unfortunately I bought them for a move so once they were packed and I tried to stack it was game over. Wasn't about to unpack them and return so it is what it is.

We need a USB-like standard for these totes. HD, Lowes, Costco, now office depot, all have slightly different dimension.

That would be so helpful. I'm about 15 miles away from my closest Office Depot and trying to figure out if these are worth the trip. I have some from Costco and HD, never tried this brand. Don't need them urgently. I was reading older threads where some SDers say these are better (slightly larger or taller) but then noticed the comment here that the lids don't fit tightly?! Dealbreaker for me.

How do you know these weren't "meant" for outdoor storage, in the elements?

Did you design these?

Not everything outdoors is "exposed to direct sunlight" …. Did you ever see a tree?

And you didn't know that some plastics have UV resistance?

And did I ever mention not being UV resistant?

This should remind you of people who tried to use plastic totes, that do not rust like file/office cabinets, for outside storage, but got screwed by a bad design and bad materials.
Because if they were, they'd charge a premium for them, and they'd say UV resistant, because it's an added feature. Basic knowledge. Just like picking out paint or clear coat, it has to say it's UV resistant.

Are these airtight enough to keep out moisture? Thinking of using them for 3D printing filament storage.
It's 3x the price at $30, but you might be interested in the Husky 20 gal tote with a gasket from Home Depot if you're absolutely needing moisture protection.

Very likely these are the same as Costco, at the same (every day) price. Costco seems to offer them on sale for $8 every few months though. Doesn't make sense for a company (Greenmade) to make a different mold to make the same size tote just for OfficeDepot when they already offer one at Costco which is undoubtedly higher volume.

Costco every day price is $8.99. They have them on sale fairly routinely for $7.99 with purchase limits. MSRP is some crazy price like $15.99 that you'll never need to pay.

Hmm, is it okay to have a 5" overhang when putting these on a shelf? Not gonna store heavy stuff so I think it will be okay? Shelf is not deep enough, and not wide enough to put 2 side by side le ngth-wise.

5 inches less on the long side would be fine. 5 inches on the short side would be cutting it close, these already have a few inches of buffer around the edges, so the base would have less contact.

I'd buy a Walmart tote that fits. These things are massive

I have a lot of these totes from different places. The style of the lid and bottom is thr only difference as they are all the same quality.

Lowes in my area has them buy 4 and get them for $9.50 each which is a better deal since they are close by.

These are great totes. I've probably bought 30 of them from various deals and I organized all my stuff in my basement with them.

They are cheaper and more duriable than the see through totes made by other companies. Since they are durable, you can stack them pretty well.

A better option might be to build a shelving unit out of 2x4s.

I'm not keen on storing totes by the flanges, as they aren't designed to bear the weight of the tote. I see people posting online about doing the same thing but on a ceiling of a garage above vehicles.

While I understand you can probably store more in any given vertical space by hanging from the flange, you really should store these such that the bottom is sitting on flat surface.

I built a similar rack for my shop that holds 30 of these. I don't necessarily disagree with Dr. J's comment about the strength of flange versus flat storage, but a flange rack is substantially cheaper to build than an oversized shelf unit. I have multiple bins with easily 100lbs of car parts in them and no sign of bending of the flange or sagging of the base.

Obviously ymmv. I did intentionally build it to be very snug side-to-side to reduce the chance of flange failure.
