Based on comments in a previous thread, The Q is more budget friendly while it is newer. Lot's of helpful info in that thread. Some scary comments about receiving defective units as well.
Here is a helpful comment by mvxg10 in a previous thread:
Mopping isn't worth it really until you go much higher in price. Spinning, raising mop, with auto wash and fill is nice. The dragging self filled mops are not really worth the trouble.
I purchased a Roborock refurb a couple years ago. Outside plastic looked all new, bottom plate was new but lacked any stickers. It was missing one screw on the bottom and there was a bit of debris deep into the wheel well but otherwise looked int great shape. I think it's a pretty good deal.
Thank you.
I ended up ordering the S8 Pro Ultra. Your post is helping me with with my anxiety lol.
I want to upgrade to S8 but my 10 year old Roomba still running strong. I think I'm stuck with it for the rest of my life. He just won't die (sorry Roomba...)
Our s5 still works. Has been running daily for 6 years. You can actually buy spare parts for them and repair them yourself. I do not have any special fix it skills and was able to do it. I've swapped a blower, a wheel and wear items like brushes and filters. Only drama really was an obnoxious "error 13" where it wouldn't charge. Turned out to be the dock went bad. Replacing that worked.
That would be the Q5, which is an incredible deal for $168.
The Q5 was the replacement for the S4 Max, and is honestly the only vac most people need. All the LIDAR and app features but no mopping, no auto-empty. Just super reliable vacuuming.
Love my Q5. Excellent navigation and avoidance logic in it. Only complaint is the tiny dust bin. You used to be able to purchase the emptying dock for the Q5 separately but that is no longer the case.

The highest in price are the sonic mops, which don't spin. I can attest that they work better than spinning mops for my tile floors.

So as far as I can tell, pretty much the only difference between the S8 and the S8 pro ultra is the dock and automatic brush lifting based on Roborock's comparison tool https://us.roborock.com/pages/rob...er-compare.
Is that right? Is the only thing you are really getting for an extra $475 automatic emptying of the dustbin, auto emptying and filling of the water, and mop washing/drying?
q series does not have auto mop lifting function right? is s7 the cheapest i can buy with that function? is it worth to get s8 over s7?
From rtings: "The Roborock S8 is better than the Roborock S7. The S8 has a more powerful suction motor and a more effective cleaning head, resulting in better debris-pickup performance across different surfaces. The S8 also features a separate front-facing optical sensor that allows it to spot, identify, and react to obstacles placed in its way."
As far as I can tell, if you want decent mopping the S8 is the best value by far. Auto emptying dust and water would be nice but I don't think that's worth an extra $400+. The vacuum is essentially the same as their flagship model (S8 pro ultra) just without the dock.

So far, it seems like the Q7+ mainly has a bigger dust bin, mopping ability, rubber brush roll, and a bit more suction.
Can anyone with the Q7+ comment on the mopping ability? I have all hardwood floors.
