The point is Kirk, Spock, and McCoy were the 3 regular cast members on the show and are the ones any Star Trek fan would select. Sulu was a minor character who didn't appear in a lot of the episodes. Obviously done for political correctness.

I think the operative word is bridge crew. Bones wasn't stationed on the bridge, sulu was. If it was an away team set.. I'd say those 3 you mention and a red shirt would be appropriate.

orrrr he has built a huge fanbase of adults after the show who will buy this crap because he's one of the toys... or your thing which is way more creative.

Love this comment. Basically the show was made in the 60's so main characters had to be white.
We can't say for sure why they choose these.
