I have quite a few pieces of MH gear, I don't recall the retail price being this insanely marked up (not that I'd ever pay full price)?
Did I catch the Alzheimer's this morning?
Almost $1k for a MH coat? Hmmm.

"Did I catch the Alzheimer's this morning?"
So much is increasing in price exponentially.
And sadly the cause is 1% as they want yearly profits to double even if not in negative . A very unrealistic goal.

If you've got the $50K to spend hiring a team of sherpas to carry oxygen tanks up the mountain, it probably is worth a $1000 to not freeze to death and become a new landmark on the mountain.

Is anyone doing Everest activities buying Columbia gear? I feel like there would be more specialized brands/lines for extreme activities

You think Columbia prices are really high? I don't know what to say other than that's what things cost. You can maybe find some cheaper stuff like Baleaf on Amazon, but it's very hit or miss, and you aren't going to be getting the consistency of licensed fabrics like Polartec, or even the decent proprietary tech of Columbia, on the no name stuff. Is there cheaper stuff that you could actually do Everest in? Probably, but if you are a surgeon making $500,000 per year, and paying $100K to do Everest, are you going to conduct your own research and risk your life on a no name Amazon item, or are you going to pay a small percent more to an outfitter that's been doing it for decades with a proven record that is recommended by expert opinion? It's a no brainer, and saying a 3lbs down expedition level parka at $1000 is expensive is just a opinion based on really nothing. You can objectively cross-shop a similar item and easily find out, that's what that game costs.
Goretex seam-sealed jackets routinely sell for $300-600. It's been this way for many years. I'm surprised that anyone that has worn outdoor gear for years doesn't understand how it works. The product is released at a high MSRP and sold at discount to influencers to make reviews. Rich and impulsive people buy it at MSRP. Then they do a sale of ~30% off after sells fall off a little. Then they do around ~50% after the season ends. Then they sell it to the clearance shops where you can't get it for ~70% off but in limited sizes and usually less desired colors. The exact discounts vary by brand.
MEN'S ROUTEFINDER™ HD GORE-TEX PRO JACKET got all sold out FYI.
