You can bypass that by tapping four corners from top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left, do it for two more time in the same order, so total 12 tap, then press volume down, after that you will able to connect to wifi and set up without SIM.

Just FYI, if you want this tablet unlock after 180 days and you don't intent to keep your metro phone number , it's better to activate your tablet with metro sim as soon as possible. Otherwise this could happen:
1. It's time to pay your next metro phone bill, metro will charge you $40, it will charge from the $20 which you have paid for the tablet first, but of course that's not enough, so you still have a $20 due on your account.
2. After this point, you can't activate your tablet since you don't have $20 to pay the first month tablet charge any more...
3. Then your stable could be locked to metro forever since it never get activated on metro.

This sped up my tablet a lot.

As per Samsung: Remove animations: Tap this to negate screen effects from apps if your eyes are sensitive to animations. It can also help speed up your device a little.

It has a fairly good 4G LTE modem but lacks Sub-6GHz 5G which is what T-Mobile has been heavily investing into.

But the specs on Metro say both the Samsung and TCL have B41 and B71 . Hmm.. So maybe the versions sold by Metro/Tmobile have all the LTE bands Tmobile uses ? Makes sense actually. Why would they sell a version that doesn't use their main bands?

Phone was free.
The $65 was for the1 month service with unlimited data + calls + texts, and was needed to get the phone for free.
Phone is still locked on Metro for 5 more months.
Before the 1st month ends, I can switch to the $30 plan with autopay OR my mom can just use the phone purely on wifi for 5 months with no data. Once it is unlocked, she can switch to a cheaper carrier like Tello or that 3 month $15 plan slickdeal for Lycamobile.
This deal popped up today, same day the phone was delivered.
I activated the phone, got the new phone number, logged in using the sent SMS, and then ordered this deal's tablet for $20.
