That said, if you travel over 6 hours, the signature sony headphone ear cramping will come to play ( I don't know why, but they have had this poor ear chamber design since 1990), I would get bose instead if you do long haul flights
And yes, I have them all
Bottom line is that XM5 may only be a slight upgrade with regard to ANC, however this may not even be noticeable. Both are great options. I don't think you would regret purchasing the XM4's and saving ~$50.

Xm5 doesn't even fold. So if you travel, I'd got the xm4

"The Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless are better headphones than the Sony WH-1000XM2 Wireless. The WH-1000XM4 are more comfortable, their ANC can block out even more background noise, and their continuous battery life is longer, too. You can also pair them with up to two devices at a time."

Generally it was worth it for me for the better ANC and USB-C. The headphones were my last micro-usb device (other than my dualshock 4)
I am astounded at how well the ANC works - you turn them on and everything just disappears. They're fantastic.

they were on sale during holiday season from costco or ticktock shop for around 200 dollar, new, or around 160 refurb.
but if you don't care usb -c, the QC 35 is just as good.
