I went into Home Depot today to relieve myself, the bathroom being in the roofing section. When I come out, I see the bright yellow tag on the shelf across from the. Naturally, I had to check to see what it was. It was a smart attic fan! I happened to need two attic fans, and low and behold two were there! Marked down from $156, it was fate for this beautiful piece of machinery and myself. that being said, it appears there are sprinkles of these gems all around the country. Happy hunting.
I have 3 of these that I got from Amazon at full price. It's a nice fan, if you're an attic fan believer then you'll like it. If you're an attic fan hater then you'll comment below about how attic fans are bad because they suck cool air out of the house and make your AC work harder. To each their own
That is the whole house fan you are referring to
That is all variable by your location's day and night temp swings, humidity, etc.. Sometimes used for just the attic though. The thought being the sun baking the roof all day heats up the attic air and removing that superheated air actually helps the AC cool the conditioned areas of the house.

I thought attic fans were used when the outside temperature was cooler than the indoor temperature (e.g., at night) and these suck in air from open or cracked windows.
I use this for both, I have a damper with a Register in the center of the house that opens when the air is cooler outside. Otherwise, with AC on during summer, the fan draws ambient (110F) air from outside to replace the 140F air in the attic. This keeps the roof cooler and makes the roof last longer. But I have a nice air barrier between the bottom of my attic and the attic. Without this you will pull cool air out of your house which makes the AC work harder.
Says someone that very obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. While that in principal works under perfect conditions including both thermostats activating at the same time and having exact flow, it's not how attic ventilation works at all and no qualified person would design it that way.
I am a HVAC engineer and I would design it this way. One on each Louver to the attic. You pick the side of the house that is not in the sun in the afternoon as the inlet and the exhaust are on the hot side. This evens the pressure in the attic. Otherwise, you will draw more air via cracks from the house around the exhaust fan. So two smaller fans are better in this respect than one larger one.
My HVAC guy says these just make the attic dirtier and are not worth the trouble for my house being adequately vented. Anyone think he's wrong?
A poor installation and location will create more issues than it's worth. In some locations, it's better to seal the attic off completely and make it part of the A/C space, while in others needs better outside ventilation. In many dustier places we recommend the attic floor to be sealed off from the house under the attic if these are used.
this is most likely a customer return or a defective item/pricing, no way they have a good fan at 80% off for no reason
They are probably dumping the 2.0 series the problem is they claim they are energy efficient but they are AC motors which are not very efficient. The 2.0 does 540 CFM and requires 78w of power, while the 3.0 does 680 CFM at 27w of power the 3.0 is 2.5x more efficient. I feel like Quitecool got caught in their efficiency lie and decided to dump the older version.
Stop being human garbage and return them so someone who can use one has the opportunity to purchase them.
Don't worry about Brooklyn any place there would have to be improvised to use such a fan. He is better off using it as a window fan as their roof/attic setups are not really good for these units. These are better used in your typical suburban locations, not in the middle of the city. I am sure if he returned them, some hole in the wall will try to use them to vent their kitchen grease-laden air out a side wall
