I have had now 2 of these. Ok for occasional light use if you're already in the Ryobi system, but otherwise I'd stay away.
First one I had electric motor burned up. 2nd one the electrical connection inside the extension joints are finicky and sometime break connection if not holding it just right. The automatic chain oiler will leak out when not in use. Most frustrating thing is the chain bar will not hold tension so you're constantly having to readjust and tighten after every couple of cuts.
I will say it does have surprising cutting power for a 18v saw.
Had mine closer to 10 years and have loved it. Like others it leaks out oil between uses but for a home owner with too many trees this thing has been invaluable.
Bought this and returned the next day. The chain kept getting loose every few mins and the extension couldn't take the load and cracked. I went with Harbor Freight model (Pittsburgh?) and it's still going strong after 3 yrs.

I was able to buy the 10 in. 40V version about 3 years ago in an Open Box deal from tools_direct.com. It's quite a beast but that model also suffers from leaky oil in storage (it just seeps out of its reservoir/tank) and the chain does tend to loosen from the bar. I found the 10 in. saw becomes a little too heavy and awkward to use on overhead branches without quickly getting arm tired, and the spray from leaking oil was noticeable. I think this 8 in. saw would work better for most people.
since other people are talking about it leaking oil.
seems that Ryobi products have oil leaking problems,
I just want to mention my Ryobi electric chainsaw leaks oil. it started after the 3rd time I used it when it was still brand new. i only used it 2 times the first year I owned it and didn't notice until the next summer on about the 3rd use, so it was past warranty
I just have a 1/2 acre, use it for firewood and some branches.
Have had mine for 5 years works great, used it with a Milwaukee battery (using an adapter).
Like any other cheaper chain saws drain the oil and I keep it on top a drip pan.

This has been one of the few Ryobi tools I've been disappointed with. Mainly it's the chain tensioner slipping. The locking mechanism is nonexistent, it's just smooth steel sliding on smooth steel. Maybe there is supposed to be a star washer or something in there, and it got left out or added after some of us got the saw.
Besides that, the shaft is too flexible. But for limited use on non-hardwoods or small branches, it can work.
PS: for people saying that Ryobi chainsaws leak oil... they all do. Electric, gas, whatever brand. Drain the oil after use to prevent that.
