One tip about the scuffer- don't use it. It creates a bunch of little cuts on the surface of the tube that can slowly let out air. Do these tiny cuts help adhere the patch? uhhh no. You want to clean the surface of the tube, not do a chopomatic on it.
I dealt with several slow leaks until it became apparent that the scuffer serves no purpose. It actually hurts the process. It would be better to use nothing and go for the adhesive directly.
So I instead toss the scuffer and carry a small piece of 2000 grit sandpaper to clean the tube.
