I just used this exact product for the first time a few weeks ago to paint an entire house (was my first time painting). I used it for about 20 minutes, set it down & didn't use it for the rest of the job. It awkward to hold this thing & try to paint also if you get to much paint on it the paint will creep around to the other side and completely negate its entire purpose. I could see it being nice if your spray paint but then again you could just use cardboard.

How exactly were you using it? Were you trying to hold the roller and this at the same time?

This is mostly for cutting in with your brush and preventing over spray in places where you don't want to spend the time prepping with masks. It's also good for painting around electrical boxes and hinges so you don't do an "apartment manager special".

Painting (well) is not easy, but you can save yourself a lot of headaches by watching some videos and having an area to play around with techniques before jumping straight into attempting a finished product.

Also, 18" rollers and good fiberglass extension poles in multiple sizes are how the pros avoid not quitting after their first job.

Nice price for the length, though if you just need the regular size the dollar store one is fine.

Completely agreed with you...now I just used it as a straight edge to draw lines or cut.

yeah these don't work very well, never seen a pro use anything like this. they're fine if you don't mind working slower than using tape and it looking mediocre in the end

unless you have super straight edges on walls, ceiling, trim, baseboards, crown moulding, tape will be the way to go

Not sure why you would think he was using a roller. He's right you hold this up to your edge and then use a brush to paint along the edge. As was mentioned if you get too much paint it can start to creep around and then you have a mess. You are right about watching videos how to paint edges. Have a wet rag at your side and you can learn to paint edges without this and do it fairly quickly. Use the wet rag when you do make a mistake. I used it ONCE and that was it. It is good if you want to use a long metal straight edge with handle but as for "painting tool", it wasn't that useful. I suppose, if your edge is VERY close the length of this thing, maybe.

What I found is that I have steady enough hand to just use my slanted brush to brush the edges and it does not look too bad at all (IMHO, better than using tapes everywhere). Creep up to the edge, like paint to 1/16" (or a bit more) away from the edge initially, and just fill the rest of the way slowly to the edge.

Only place i do need tape is if I am to paint between the 2 narrow trims and for that this isn't useful either.

Same experience. Wasn't impressed with the results and it was awkward to try and hold and paint at the same time. Went back to taping.
