I second this, again the rumors are that the 12.9" MicroLED will be a 13" OLED for the next generation. I believe that the 11" model will stay the same size but be OLED as well. Some leaked drawings show that both models have a thinner profile as well.

Unless your mom is a creator or artist or has a use for the features in the iPad Pro, then it sounds like you bought the wrong item, that's on you. You should've chosen a regular iPad and saved yourself some money. And you even bought it twice, like you said.
This 2021 model, and newest one, is there that big of a difference in performance to spend the extra $$ for the latest model?
You can hook up a fast external drive to it and voila, you have plenty of extra terrabytes in storage for cheap, if you need it.

Some schools are into google chromebooks, and some schools are into apple stuff. I picked up a 17inch chromebook with 64bit-OS for 70 dollars in Excellent Open box (new price was 250 dollars) , and it is still fantastic device, and is updated until 2029.
I am not in school, so I don't know what your classmates are using. I also have 11 inch chromebook with touch screen and keyboard, that I picked up for 99 dollars with update until 2028.
Now, these chromebooks can be used in collage too.
Maybe the IPAD 9th gen and chromebook ... or if the kids are using apple MacBook Air's, maybe get that. Maybe call the school, and ask what they recommend and what is popular. Or maybe a windows 11 laptop would work.

Not everyone is as fit and rude as you are!! Some people eyes and finger senses weaken, and hence need a bigger screen.
If somebody has poor eye sight and they don't mind paying extra to get the pro model, then go for it.

12.9" screen is very nice to read for older people, but the pro is the only iPad that has that big screen.
