Flaking has nothing to do with the paint, Zojirushi mugs are not dishwasher-safe.

Starbucks used to sell thermos type products that were branded Starbucks but were made by zojirushi. I am fortunate to have a couple of them and their ability to retain heat is unparalleled. I dont have one of these mugs but I can't imagine them not working as well, so if you want functionality over trendiness, get this.

I bought this last time it was posted and I really like it. Keeps my coffee hot longer than my rtic and yeti cups do. I wish the lid was a little more simple, but overall this is a great cup.

It honestly keeps my coffee TOO hot for TOO long. The work around I found was to leave the cap off for twenty minutes or more or make sure whatever goes in is warm to begin with, not hot.

I'm serious; I went through an entire shift without the coffee being cool enough to drink; sipping only. Having 3/4 of my coffee left halfway through the shift isn't ideal.

The lip is well designed, but it does allow a large flow of the liquid out with a relatively small lip, whereas a larger lip would allow for more sipping/cooling action.

I work in an office setting so YMMV, but I end up pouring into a mug when I get to work because of exactly what you described, too hot for too long.
