Some of these router brands are so lazy to patch security flaws. Last update was almost a year and half ago. It's not like the flaws don't exist. They simply aren't patching.
bought these a year ago. seriously the worst wifi system i've ever used. absolute trash. if you love rebooting routers, you'll love Linksys.
Looks like that is the latest firmware version:

Is this the Firmware version out of the box? Maybe there is a more current version for update during the installation and setup.

Agreed, had nothing but issues with my Velop system. Constant drops and no support from Linksys. I'd avoid and go with something like TP-Link.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I switched to the TP-Link mesh system from Costco after getting rid of my Velop and have had zero issues. Much faster speeds, as well.

Using Velop/Linksys in bridged mode eliminates (at least for me) all the rebooting issues. In bridged mode, my system has excellent WiFi and good coverage.

IMHO Orbi and Asus are amazing when it comes to higher output AX mesh systems followed by TP-Link.

My experience with velop was nothing short of extraordinary. My only problem is I had one of the first gen ones and when we upgraded to gigabit it didn't support it. They do now but they didn't at the time. I would love to get one of their newer models.

Would be good to hear from you since you have real experience with the router. Thanks.Wink

Do I have to create online account, do I need to provide my phone number? Is there any subscription fee? Do I need subscription to use things like parent control, or restrict from what ip address my router administration can be performed?

Ideally I'm looking for a mesh system that does not require any of the above nonsense. Everyone wants your account, email, phone and subscription.

I wonder if I should just buy 2 of ASUS RT-AX86U Pro and connect them via mesh-ai with wired backhaul.

It's funny. I remember building my WiFi network on Linksys router about 15 years ago as "Linksys" had a reputation of the champion, yet necessity of frequent rebooting existed already then. After year or so tired of this bullshit I switched to then "Chinese" generic brand TP-Link and never came back to Linksys. Funny how things don't change for decades 😂😂😂

Hmmm. I literally just ordered this 2-pack from Amazon 3 days ago. Got them yesterday morning and set them up by adding each as a node in addition to my MR7500 router.

So far seems good. I tested one of them wirelessly at a few random points in the house to check signal strength. Then ethernet connected one on top floor and the other in basement. Seem to be getting great coverage and speed with no drops noticed within first 24 hours.

Both also automatically prompted to update to latest firmware right after setup (2.0.6.211172).

Can you please confirm these have USB port to connect hard drive?

It does. But I haven't tried it (don't have a drive to connect).
