One thing that sucks about Lowes (and I like them) is they really limited what items work with discounts. My father-in-law went to pick up electrical supplies for a small project on our house, and none of it qualified for discounts.
Guessing this applies to most reading this thread.. AAFES now has a link to HD appliances where you can buy appliances with like 1% discount and tax free. So basically 10% off appliances, something Lowes stopped giving discounts on. Can also use military star card to buy them.
Because I'm giving Lowe's a thumbs up. I said Home Depot does a cap. It's a max of $400 at Home Depot. Lowe's does not have an annual cap which is very awesome of them.

This is great, but has anyone else had problems using their rewards coupons? I got a $5 off, but I can't use it on anything. It seems to me that using my military discount counts as 'using in combination with another discount/offer', but I can't turn off my military discount. I tried using it in store and online for a lot of non-sale items, but it wouldn't add. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is it unusable?
Not sure if many of you know this, but the former executive vice president of U.S. stores for Home Depot for 12 yrs. Mr. Marvin R. Ellison now runs Lowe's. I remember before he took over Lowe's gave a 10% discount on almost everything in the store to veterans. So from 2018 forward you started seeing HD policies turn up a Lowe's. This is big business and I'm sure these Fortune 500 companies all talk and try to tweak their policies accordingly. But there is no doubt that Lowe's veterans discount policy diminished significantly from 2018 forward under Ellison.
Interesting, I spent well over 50 but maybe there was 1 random item on sale that locked out the coupon. Thanks for the info
All discounts are limited to the cost of the item to Lowe's. Once the discount reaches the cost, it is capped. I think this is a reasonable policy. If the sale price is below the cost, then no further discount will be given.

Interesting. Now you have me wondering if he's the person who decided that Home Depot would only give a Veteran's discount to ALL vets on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day while Lowes offered it to all vets everyday (HD gave it everyday but only to those who were retired or medically discharged although some associates were lax depending on the specific store).
Then the same guy moves to Lowes.. Home Depot opens their discount to all veterans and Lowes starts restricting what's available.
Sounds like this guy may just hate giving discounts. Would be curious to see a detailed timeline and how things line up.
"Treatment of vets"? What treatment is that? They don't owe you anything. As a past long time member of the US Army Armor Corps, if I remember, I entered as a volunteer, and was compensated pretty well. Funny how most of my veteran friends from those days avoid all those "get a free this or that if you are a vet" promotions. I certainly appreciate what Lowes and HD do, but I would never consider this some form of mis-treatment of verts if they didn't.
Agree. I'm a millennial vet and pretty put off by this level of entitlement from vets these days expecting that they are owed a discount and that they are mistreated when not. You signed up to serve not get discounts. Discounts are awesome but shouldn't be expected for vets.
"The Home Depot Military Discount cannot be applied to select items, services and fees, including, but not limited to, some commodity products (including lumber, wire, building materials), value priced merchandise, appliances, tool rental fees, labor items, gift cards and services including freight and delivery."
''Lowe's can't be used on any services, major appliances and related accessories and parts, commodities (such as, but not limited to, electrical cable, electrical wire, dimensional lumber, plywood, and OSB) or gift cards."
You can buy appliances from Home Depot on shopmyexchange.com now and not pay taxes.
Military discount no longer applies to anything on sale. Apparently that was a covid change I missed, but found out the hard way yesterday. You suddenly notice when that $32 item is on sale for $29.99 and get a little irked. While I'm not "entitled", it was something I had and found out at the register they don't play that anymore. So pardon my audible sigh.
If anything these companies should be giving discounts to those in actual financial need like people on disability, food stamps, SSI etc.
Socialist much?
Without military/vets those programs wouldn't exist.
As a vet I'm appreciative of a discount but I understand it's a courtesy not a right.
As a LEO it's the same.
Northern Tool in Marietta, GA let me stack military 10% off with the current Husqvarna 20% off. I picked up a 550XP MK II for approx $500 plus tax. I'd probably call in advance to verify.
I've hit the $400 limit past 2yrs and usually hit Lowes for the rest of the year. This year after I hit limit, I noticed the discount still worked when I used website instead of the app/QR code.
That's $4000/year of stuffs you purchase from them, you can't blame them for giving you $400 for free. Also, buy online since many items ship for free. On the other hand, you probably can get a contractor account and receive contractor or bulk pricing.
It doesn't work on seeds anymore. I've just started buying from small businesses online or a local nursery. The products are much better than what they carry at Lowe's or Home Depot. I rarely even go there now.
You are granted silver automatically if you have a Lowes Credit Card. Also, some rewards can be used on discounted stuff. I used the $5 off $50 and 2 x $5 rewards on a $75 clearance item that was already 75% off. Everything stacked just fine, it just didn't ALSO apply the automatic 5% for using Lowe's card. Apparently you can't use both that AND the $5 off $50 reward at th3 same time

As a vet, I love the discount, but at the end of the day, they are still a business.
I buy $800 worth of stuff and they GIVE me $80. such a deal
I hope you pair that with the endless stream of Lowes gift cards for 10% off.
