I've said it in multiple threads but honestly I've had great service from go hard drive. They simply refund you the money or send a replacement if one is available. Seemless process and yes they do warranty for 5 years.

I bought this a week ago and they included the cable as well as a strip of Kapton tape and clear instructions.

Why do you need to use tape on the sata power?? Are these pulled from external HDs??

Power disable feature enabled on this hard drive so need to tape 3.3v pin to prevent signal from preventing the hard drive from spinning up

I bought one to test it in my system and when not covering pins drive doesn't show up and with tape on pins drive pops up to initialize it and then says "device is not ready" in my DAS and connecting directly to a computer I get an i/o error. Did I get a damaged drive?

Just got mine and installed it - SMART info says 22K hours already! Should I request a replacement?!! I just replaced a drive with 35K hours.
That's only 2.5 years of use. These drives can last 7-10 years.

The pin NOT being covered is causing your drive not to work. If you're not using some drive enclosure which has you sliding drives into a backplane (QNAP. Synology) and instead using a regular PC, the just buy a SATA power splitter and cut the first wire. I typically get Black Friday external drives and after shucking them I have to deal with the pin and the SATA splitter cable is an easy way to deal with the 3.3v disable pin. Don't buy cheap SATA splitters as they have caught on fire per the interwebs and plenty of picture samples.

Thanks for providing this feedback and info. It comes with an adapter in the box that supposedly disables the power issue and when I connect to a computer with that I still get an i/o error. Do you think drive is likely damaged in this case then?

It has the Power Disable SATA feature..how do you deal with that? Esp. with a 5+ year old QNAP NAS.
As others have mentioned, you need to use some type of tape, kapton or other non-conductive tape, and cover the third pin. To me that is a major PITA and the easier solution is to use a Molex-to-SATA power adapter.

Wow, I'm really surprised that it comes with an adapter to disable the pin just due to liability reasons but on the other hand they're selling to end consumers. IMO, I would try not to use the included adapter and just cover the pin with kapton, electrical tape or even nail polish (but thick like 2 coats). If you can try on multiple computers or an external enclosure. If none of them work then you definitely got a busted drive.

I think it's damaged because I tried with the adapter they provided, I also tried without the adapter and covered the first three pins with tape, and I tried in two different devices, and same issue that the drive is recognized but will not initialize.

Not first 3 pins... but only the 3rd pin...

For folks going down the SATA power splitter route, I recommend searching Google for "shuck sata power splitter cut wire" and reading that first reddit hit. Been using this splitter for over 3 years. Takes less than 5 minutes to do a clean job of modifying that adapter (unsnapping)... or 30 seconds to do it the dirty way and just snipping that wire closest to the 90 degree angle of the SATA power.

Yes, but from what I read there is no detriment if you cover the first two pins with the third. It's just easier to use a larger piece of tape that cover the first three than using a really thin piece to only cover the third pin. And it also seems likely there's a better chance for tape to remain secure with a larger piece of tape.

Fair enough, I'm an exact science kinda guy 😆 did my research years ago and it solely talked about pin 3. I would say before calling it dead just try doing the single 3.3v pin.

sure but the other refurb drive I had was 5K hours, and this one had less than 1000 hours on it, also enterprise drive. I'll keep that over this one. just gives me another 2-3 years before I need to go though the process
