I've said it in multiple threads but honestly I've had great service from go hard drive. They simply refund you the money or send a replacement if one is available. Seemless process and yes they do warranty for 5 years.

I bought this a week ago and they included the cable as well as a strip of Kapton tape and clear instructions.

Fair enough, I'm an exact science kinda guy did my research years ago and it solely talked about pin 3. I would say before calling it dead just try doing the single 3.3v pin.
I appreciate you making that suggestion. I know the drive is bad because they send a cable that you can use to connect the drive to your computer that disables the power pin and it gave me the same error as the tape method I tried.

Wow, I'm really surprised that it comes with an adapter to disable the pin just due to liability reasons but on the other hand they're selling to end consumers. IMO, I would try not to use the included adapter and just cover the pin with kapton, electrical tape or even nail polish (but thick like 2 coats). If you can try on multiple computers or an external enclosure. If none of them work then you definitely got a busted drive.
Extensions always have some liability but since one of the power lines is not connected there is less risk of arcing I bet. The entire hubub around sata connector issues was 7 years ago, they must have fixed something because its been rather quiet since, and computers and decent enclosures are in metal cases for a reason.

based on general recommendations you wouldn't be allowed extension cords at all.

I think it's damaged because I tried with the adapter they provided, I also tried without the adapter and covered the first three pins with tape, and I tried in two different devices, and same issue that the drive is recognized but will not initialize.

The fastest way to test is with a drive dock.

Thanks for the suggestion. Put it in a drive dock, the drive shows up in disk management, but when trying to initialize it there is a data error message.

refurb and platter based, most people would be turned off due to short longevity.

I needed to use the cable as well in an older PC. Almost gave up on it until I remembered that.

Bought four the other day and one has failed already. I'll update with the support response in this thread.
Drive shipped back and replaced with another at their expenses.
