Just picked one of these up at the Lone Tree CO store - had 3 left by the ceiling fans and a nice pile at the entrance/exit near the contractor check out.

Looks like this price is actually showing online as well for me right now with 38 available for "delivery", but guessing that may be a local-ish service.

Can someone explain to me why extension cords are so expensive?
Copper is a big part of it. 100 ft of 12/3 will have on the order of 7 lbs of just copper; Scrap rates are near $3/lb so there's $20ish of copper alone. Then there's the value add of actually manufacturing the thing.

This is a SD for sureโ€ฆNorth Texas still has some in stock. If you need 2-50 footers cut and buy new ends.
That is exactly what I would do. Two 50' cords> one 100'.

As a homeowner, I don't want the ability to work outside when it's cold -- I'd rather have an excuse to stay in and wait for Spring. Thanks for the info though as I hadn't heard of those. Prices didn't look too egregious, but I didn't see what the better brands charge.

I have a 80' heavy duty Ridgid extension cord, and it's like fighting an anaconda when it's cold.

Yeah it's not fun maneuvering a stiff ass cold cord. We use a lot of them on the farm and plugging semis in and stuff like that so I like to jump on some good 12ga cord deals. They get used and abused around the farm.

Just had two delivered within the last hour. $79.53 all in incl the delivery fee. Had them shipped to a friend's house in Evansville, IN, because there are none in stock anywhere near me. And it shows they have more in stock at both Evansville stores.

Anyone find a reel that actually holds 100ft and has outlets built in? All I'm seeing are 12GA 75ft.

I grabbed the last 2 at my local store in the clearance section yesterday. Looked like the last in stock in my city. Brickseek was accurate this time too. Good deal๐Ÿ‘

These [homedepot.com] are very good for what they cost. I have a couple reels of this type (not sure if they're the same brand) that are around 30 years old and still look and work like new.

Way, way too flimsy for a 100' 12/3.
I spent some time researching, and so far have landed on this: https://a.co/d/7o2NoDA see the videos

For at least one of my cord reels, I prefer this type - https://www.amazon.com/EP-Extensi...B08RRPND1L

Having said that, I have a Bayco in the style of the one that I linked. Bayco makes great cord reels, and you can't go wrong with any model from them. The slimmer ones without outlets definitely take up less space. For me, it's been nice to have one with outlets and the metal frame.

Read the item description. That reel will not fit 100' of thick 12/3. The beefier reels that will accommodate 12/3 are about $130.

I've spent some time diving into less-expensive solution and have come up with this, after looking at the Amazon review videos and also YouTube: https://a.co/d/7o2NoDA
