There was a time where the people at Aeropress said they considered including a metal reusable filter with each Aeropress, but after a taste-test, decided against it. Something about oils that were only trapped with paper filters.
Is there a "permanent" gold/foil type filter available?
Also picked up the fellow prismo metal filter in 2018, it doesn't produce better coffee, but the valve means the coffee doesn't leak into your cup while it's immersion brewing so you get a more complete extraction, which helps control sourness in the end product. You can skip it and invert the aeropress instead for the same result but that can be fiddly.
Very easy to use AND clean-up. Nuke a cup of water, put in 2 scoops freshly ground beans, pour in water to the 2 mark, stir, steep for 90 seconds, push it through, then you drink it. If you need a second cup nuke that water while the first one brews. If you're making coffee for a crowd, don't use an aeropress.
I use a metal permanent filter (in a Fellows nozzle), and I do get a tiny bit of fines, so I pour everything but the last few drops.
I bought into the hype on these and although was fairly happy with the coffee, it's a mess to clean and I went back to my OXO single cup drip. I will probably still pack the travel version when I go on an extended trip, but even then it's worth the simplicity to splurge on decent local coffee.
Pro tip for anyone that reads this comment and is dissuaded from buying this amazing coffee maker based on the "cleanup": once you're done brewing just pull the plunger back out like a quarter of an inch. That will allow you to remove the cap from the bottom without any coffee coming with it, then just walk over to the trash can and press the plunger fully through, and a nice puck of coffee with the filter plops right out, no mess at all.
Compared to my 10 year old one, other than the fact the new one came with like 50 filters instead of 300 they are the same.
Remember to remove the rubber seal from the press to wash it once in a while, it can get nasty underneath if you don't. I replaced the rubber seal after 9 years with an Amazon special, it fits loose on the plunger and makes it really tough to press down (too large). I recommend using OEM part instead, its' only $10.
I've used both the metal filter (The Disc by Altura) and paper filter, can't really tell a difference in taste since I switch beans so much. Metal filter eventually gets clogged and it's more work to keep it clean in everyday use. I recommend sticking with paper.
Coffee always come out good with the Aero. I use Baratza Encore on setting 14. Make sure your beans are not stale!!

Also, the default/recommended recipe for coffee tastes BAD to me (others may love it).
I spent a lot of time looking up alternate recipes/procedures and settled on James Hoffman's "ultimate aeropress" technique and it is way better but the time requirement is also about 4 minutes after all of the setup. He has a 3 part YouTube video on it if you want to look it up.

I find it sad that everyone talks about saving the environment and then Temu becomes one of the largest online marketing shopping places. They're a not B2B or B2C, they're a B2L company, business to landfill. All of their stuff is garbage more or less.
I've only done it once in my 9 years of owning it, but depending on how often you use it, you may need to do it every couple of years.

Which seems like a crock. It's in stock at $30.99 (but with no tote).
